SPORE Preview

May 13th, 2006 by Matt Stone in Articles, E3
“From the mind of Will Wright, the creator of The Sims, comes SPORE, an epic journey that takes you from the origin and evolution of life through the development of civilization and technology and eventually all the way into the deepest reaches of outer space.

I heard about this game a long time ago, but as of late, the game has somewhat perked my interest during E3. The game was looking terrific at the demonstration given at E3. The best part was that the demo was actual game code. The demo began showing off the slightly revised creature editor.
Each starting creature design starts out as a blob with vertebra in it. More vertebras can be added while the section of the mesh around the vertebra can be modified to make the sections skinny or fat. Lastly, you add arms, legs, eyes, ears, mouths, feet, hands, and claws. All these features are purchased in-game with “DNA points. You can further modify these parts of the body as well.

Next in the creature creator, is giving your monster color and texture. You start off giving it layers of color, and then adding layers of texture such as bumps and eventually patterns. After showing off the creature creator, Will Wright jumped into the game using a different creature and showed us some of the actual gameplay. Other creatures roamed the world, some peaceful and some being dangerous. It was plainly seen that some of them were more social than others â€
