Xbox To Go Portable in 2007/08
May 31st, 2006 by Darren Stevens in Business
Analysts from The Diffusion Group are predicting that Microsoft will enter the portable gaming market by the end of 2007, with a portable Xbox game system/media player. The portable market is expected to reach $3 Billion annually by 2008, with only Nintendo and Sony playing along. They think that would seem unrealistic if Microsoft didn’t try and get a cut from that pie. But would it make sense for Microsoft to do that? The Xbox and Xbox360 have lost Billions, and to try and fight Nintendo (and Sony for that matter) in the handheld market could cost them Billions as well. The DS outsells the Xbox360 almost everywhere now, even the PS2, PSP, GameCube and GameBoy Micro outsold Xbox360 in Japan the recent months.

Halo on the Nintendo DS? It could have been, if the deals had worked out. A major publisher began negociations with license holder Microsoft for the game to happen, and contracted a known game developer to produced a spec demo of a version of Halo for the Nintendo DS. The demo was made, the game was (according to those who played it) appropriately accurate to the Halo experience on Nintendo’s little handheld, and the talks were active in making the game happen … and then, it was no more. Due to issues regarding the license, Halo DS was never fully produced.

There is a Halo DS video out there that shows the actual game. It was based off the Goldeneye engine and looked really fun.

why do you even put a picture if you dont know how the portable xbox is going to look, if they make it of course. Whoever wrote this idiotic article should be punched right in the face, then burned, and at last the ashes should be flushed down the fuckin toilet.

I think the xbox handheld is a great idea. It needs a flashy design, good graphics and a media player. Could you just imagine when your being driven home or to an airport playing Gears of War,dead rising or oblivion? I think it would need the gamerscore points and achievements aswell.

it better not look anything like the pcture above because the way it would be held could prove to be uncomfortable and why is there only one joystick, and a rather tiny one at that.how do you expect to play xbox’s extensive first person shooter game formats with only one joystick, would you take away the ability to aim at targets??i dont think so!

Nintendo completely dominates the hand held market. The reason for this is simply the nintendo library. It is so vast - Nintendo has been re-releasing classics like crazy on the DS and even on the GBA they did it. Sony has some decent games they bring out on the PSP, but what does the xbox have? I have no interest in playing Ninja Gaiden on the go, give me a classic rpg instead.

i agree with all of the people that said who cares about japan. I know a japanese kid at my school and he a hole. Japanese people are different in i like xbox way more than play station and nintendo is a game system you use more when ur younger. they are just now trying to get into the rated M class and it is not working for them.
