Colbert

It’s always nice to know when some famous entertainers are playing games, and what games they play in particular. We know comedian Robin Williams is an avid FPS fan, and now Stephen Colbert, from the “The Colbert Report” on Comedy Central says he plays games as well. While interviewing his guest, author Steven Johnson, he mentioned his passion for FPS games, and how kids can learn from games such as Civilization 4 and The Sims 2.

Enjoy some funny video clips of Colbert in action.

I’m an avid video gamer myself, but they shouldn’t be mistaken for tools of learning under any circumstances.

    You, sir, are a tool.

Yay…lets all jump on the bandwagon and call Magnum Steele a tool!!!
Pricks…and what a unique name you’ve got there , “Eleets Mungam”.
Namecalling because they have an opinion? What lowlifes you are! Though I don’t agree with Magnum Steele’s opinion, I will not badger someone because they have an opinion. /rant

Anywho, I think that a video game, being in essence a game, can be used to teach, like a mathematics game, or a spelling game. Games like DOOM, Final Fantasy, and Grand Theft Auto(any of them), however, have little to no educational value

  4. BoB Says:

Hey, Dont diss on Final Fantasy, its better than any “fun” game you could think of to learn froml

Y’Know what, I believe your right. Most GAMES serve no educational purpose. I wonder why that is. Could it be because they’re GAMES? Seriously people, a game is that, a game. It’s not there to teach, it’s there to entertain. If it was there to teach, no-one would buy them.

Y’Know what else is interesting? The stupidly large amount of money spent on tests and trials to determine whether games actually present a neurological problem. If your kid can’t get out of the game, he should die when you turn the console/pc off. People that whinge, whine bitch and complain about “Games are the root of evil” etc. are just imbesilic figments of a human.

whereas most games aren’t really educational some games (like myst or World of Warcraft) can teach you to pay attention to details in reading and your surroundings. You’ll also find most serious WoW players use math/statistics to figure out which talent build or weapon/armor is best for their character.

On a similar note people who play FPS can improve their hand/eye coordination and reaction times, OMG that applies to real life! Also people who play console games will find that a recent study says you burn more calories gaming than just sitting on your duff watching Fox news. It’s not a jog in the park but it’s a start. And do I even need to mention DDR in that context?

Bandwagon time, most any GAME video or not develops your mind and a lot of games youd say arent educational LIKE GTA , r very good tools, they develop hand eye corodination, they sharpen your senses and reflexes, even GTA san andreas has a few lessons to learn in life,, like that cops r pretty crooked, if you cheat and scam soemone over and over they r gonna get ya back, even mabey make it so you never get teh chance to do it to another person,, LOL. But civ 4 and so on have history type crap, but dont go thinkin that history is intelligence, it was mostly written by people like george bush, so lets just assume its ALL lies untill we get a time machine to prove it right.

Games,, r the future, anyone who thinks different , should go hang out with the amish, cause you wont need electricity either

all the asshats that hate against games like gta r seriously damaged in their heads, they r the people whod rather watch dead people on the 6 o clock news than see a fake dead person, and you think your not messed up,,, I, think you have real issues..

Mabey if someone liek george bush had spent less time gettin molested by his father, and more time playing GTA hed have all the killing outta him so he didnt have to do it IR
