Speaking to the Australian Press, Shigeru Miyamoto said that Nintendo will definitely consider going for pretty graphics with future consoles, but for now, their focus is on innovation with the Wii.
“Maybe a few years down the road then definitely we will probably look in that direction, but at this point in time we thought it better to use technology not to simply try to re-create the same games over again with better graphics but instead to try and do something new and unique.”
If the Wii turns out to be a massive success, Nintendo will probably go the same way with the next console, offering the Wii controller innovation and “pretty graphics”. The GameBoy 2 is rumored to be more powerful that the PSP, and in stores sometime 2007, but Nintendo have repeatedly stated that they are focusing all their efforts in the Wii and DS.
