GamesFirst reports that major retailers like EBGames and GameStop will only receive about 20 PlayStation 3 consoles per store, where they received between 50 and 100 Xbox360 consoles. As many recall, there were huge shortages on the Xbox360. The 20 consoles is based on an internal email from GameStop, and if true, could have serious consequences for Sony’s grand entrance into the next-gen battle. Sony said they would ship 4 million consoles this fall/winter, and 2 million by March 2007. But failing hardware might suggest otherwise.

1Wow! A step in the wrong direction. If this is true, it’s gonna be a crappy launch.

2I worked at GameStop during the 360 launch. Every Store in my district got 15 Consoles at Launch, and didn’t get any more for over a month. The next shipment consisted of 2, which went to customers who had broken ones. We were not aware of any stores that recieved 50-100. Even the Walmart only got around 40.

3Hmmm here in Winnipeg Canada, we got 30-40 consoles first date… thats was Best Buy, EB Games and Walmart that i know of. Then next next weeks after that (we got a shipment every 2 weeks untill first day of 2006) we got 50-60 consoles and i think some of the employees took some cuz my friend worked there and he said there was 63 and then when i waited outside there was only 56 lol…
But this could be a big problem with Sony here. even if some places only got 15-20 360’s. That was a bad shortage and Sony should avoid doing what Microsoft did.

4If you can get one, you can make a nice profit on eBay!

5Chaos: Crazy, I’m from Winnipeg too.
20 per store doesn’t seem like much at all. I wonder how many wii’s there will be per store at launch

7I was working at the time of the 360 launch.
Yes there were employess that set aside 360 for them selves. And from friends I have that still work there, BestBuy is not even telling their own employees how many consoles they have at their own store. From what I have seen and the news floating around. Your best bet will be smaller store. While only they will get very few consoles, there will be little to no people at these locations.

8A little Algebra….
1,098,200 ship for 360 launch
400,000 expected for PS3 launch
That is 36.4% of the 360 launch systems….
The BestBuy I worked at had 38 360 Systems at launch. 36.4% of 38 is 13.832 systems
So one could theoriticly expect any given BestBuy, Walmart, Gamestop, etc. . . to have about 1/3 of the launch systems they had for the 360 launch.

9I know someone who believes they can sell their PS/3 online for between $4-5K. I really don’t know if people are willing to pay thousands for this. he did tell me that one did sell already in Japan for $9500. Still I wouldn’t get one just to price gauge … but that’s just me … I don’t care if others do I just find it amazing that people are willing to pay thousands for a console instead of just waiting a few months … but people do love their gaming don’t they.

10Old post but things sure changed. People invested so much money into the ps3s only to find no one wanted them a month later.

11Thanks for the nice entry. I just want to add that stores will have to buy LARGE numbers if PS3s because people are waiting EAGERLY for It!
