Nintendo Buys More Wii Domains
July 3rd, 2006 by Matt Stone in BusinessNintendo has been buying up lots of Wii domains these days, around 70 in total. And they still claim they aren’t interested in the most important one, wii.com. If wii.com doesn’t interest them, these sure do:
WiiCan
WiiClub
WiiCommunication
WiiDiary
WiiHappy
WiiHealth
WiiHome
WiiKids
WiiMap
WiiOnline
WiiSenior
WiiWords
WWWii
It looks like Nintendo didn’t manage to buy wii.com from Williamette Industries, and now they’re trying to get everything they can with a “Wii” in it. People interested in the new console would naturally type “www.wii.com” (like playstation.com and xbox.com), but very few know that the official site is wii.nintendo.com.
Lot of marketing money is going to be spent on getting people to know the new site. If you ask me, wii.com is the biggest mistake Nintendo has made with their new console. So far.

Eh? They got a shedload of money, I remember reading that the company that owns the name now is some tree processing company or something. Surely Nintendo could chuck a couple of million their way (though I’m sure they’d take less).
…and Wii Can just brings back memorys of the initial reaction to the console being renamed Wii.
