amd x2AMD has released a software update for it X2 series dual core CPUs, and the high-end FX series. Apparently, you should be able to get better performance in games, as AMD says:

The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer can help improve some PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction.

I don’t know how many understood those tech terms, but anything that can get me some more FPS is welcome on my system. So I went and installed the update and ran 3D Mark 06. With the new update, I got a tiny 2% improvement (I use an X2 4600+). I played Battlefield 2 and Quake 4 as well, without noticing any difference at all.
