Handhelds Boost Japanese Game Industry

Japanese videogame sales have risen a third in the first 6 months of 2006. The Nintendo DS and the new DS Lite drive the increasing sales to over $2 billion so far. Nintendo has sold 1.3 million DS consoles and another 2.3 million DS Lite consoles. I comparison, Sony’s PSP has sold less than a million. Yesterday Nintendo shares hit 20,390 Yen, a four year high.
