One Million Wii’s In August?
July 7th, 2006 by Darren Stevens in Business, Hardware, Wii, Xbox360
Chinese newspaper Commercial Times reports that chipmakers SiS and ATi are getting a lot of orders on the Wii and Xbox360 hardware lately. ATi’s consumer electronics chips business rose from 15% to 20% this year due to the demand from Nintendo.
More interestingly though, PixArt Imaging, the supplier of the sensors in the Wiimote said to the newspaper that the shipments of its hardware will reach one million in August.
This doesn’t necessarily mean there would be one million Wii consoles ready in August, but it’s a good indication of an earlier launch than the rumored early November date. The Wii has been in production since late June, and it looks like Nintendo will meet the goal of 2 million consoles by late December.

Didn’t Nintendo (same with Sony) plan to shop 4 million consoles by the end of December, and 2 million early next year to meet their 6 mil mark b the end of March?
