Hellgate: London Source Code Stolen?
July 11th, 2006 by Darren Stevens in Action, Multiplayer, PC, RPG, Software
We all remember what happened to Valve when the original Half Life 2 source code was stolen. Major portions of the game had to be rewritten, a very costly affair that delayed the game for another year. Now The Gamers With Jobs Press: Pass are reporting that Flagship Studio’s Hellgate: London (the spiritual sequel to Diablo) source code has been stolen, and that all of their servers were taken down for af few hours, probably a security update.
It appears that the hacker is Chinese, and is now trying to sell the code on the web. Bill Roper, ex-Blizzard developer and owner of Flagship Studios says that he “cannot confirm or deny that any code was stolen from the servers”.
