A number of Danish online retailers have set the pre-order price on the PS3 consoles, the same price Danes will have to pay at launch. The 60GB version costs DKK 5000, or US$ 854, the 20GB will cost 4000, or US$ 683.
When the PS2 was released in Denmark it cost the same as the PS3 20GB version. The Xbox360 premium package goes for around 3000 DKK, just over $500. Xbox360 games cost over $80, and PS3 games are expected to go above the $100 mark. There’s no price info on the Wii yet.
What are the American gamers complaining about, again?

1Yikes, that is a lot of money! Was there any reason given as to why the price point was set so high? Is this an inflation thing that has to do with Denmark’s economy? (I really have no idea what the situation is over there — just asking.) You’re right though: I think I’ll just fork over my $600 bucks or whatever and smile politely while doing so!

2It’s because of the taxes and import fees.
The price will be roughly the same for Sweden and Norway as well. Sony has already said the PS3 price will be around $800 in the UK

4Mutsch> do you realise that the danish pricepoint is (roughly) the same in DKK as in Euros? 599Euro=4500DKK give or take a little. and that you dont have to pay tax on the goods if you buy something in another EU country given that the company you trade with ships for less than 250000DKK to denmark (very few European companies do that… The Euro is a clever thing, but it also makes just about everything in the countries where it has been introduced more expensive….

5Same here in Mexico, the original xbox go to sell for more than $500, even now you need $250 to buy one, the ps2 was worst original $600 an now (slim) $300. The 360 first nearly $800 but thank god now drop $200, i dont know why, but im not complain.
Retail prices, i dont know why cost almost 2 times more than US (see gamestop website), so i expect $1000 for the PS3, hopefully they leave the price at 9,999 pesos (like 909 dollars).
Thats why many people here buy consoles and games from website, or ebay, some just go USA (advantage for be a neighbour country) to buy some consoles and re-sell them with an instant $100 profit, i get my ps2 from one of them, pay $90 more, but pay less than buy it from retail.
Games are expensives too, %35 to %50 more
