During the EA press event, Valve boss Gabe Newell went on stage and revealed Valve’s new game, Portal. The game, a first person shooter, will feature portals like those of Prey, coupled with physics puzzles known from Half Life 2. GameSpot was at the event and reports:
“It looks like they took the portal concept from Prey and slapped it on a gun–you can shoot them into walls and floors to solve all kinds of crazy puzzles, teleporting objects around and stuff. Looks like a total mindbender.”
The Source engine will feature further upgrading in Episode 2, with “cinematic physics”, new particle systems, better foliage, and more.
Finally, he revealed Team Fortress 2, which will be the multiplayer game coupled with Episode 2. Episode 2 + all the back content of HL2 will be released for the Xbox360 and the PlayStation 3 simultaneously with the PC version. Lot’s of news from Valve, and a few surprises as well.
