No WiiConnect 24 In The UK?
July 16th, 2006 Posted in Online, Technology, Wii
Nintendo revealed plans of having the Wii console operating even when it’s “off” (read: standby), downloading new content etc. However, a new Government rule may block that idea, since it requires all electronic appliance manufacturers to remove the standby feature from their products.
The Government estimates that 8% of the energy consumption in the UK is wasted while electronic equipment is on standby, equipment like TV’s, DVD players, set-top boxes, chargers etc.
Nintendo hasn’t said anything about Wii’s power consumption, but if the new law is passed, it will mean no WiiConnect 24 for the Brits.

You might be right Jim2K. But it’s also a question about producing the energy in the right kind of way. In Denmark (DK) FX. The government made a plan in the 1980’s that 10% of the energy produced in DK, should be made by windmills. And I think they have accomplished this more or less by now. There is also solar and wave power. But of course you’re right. There is no doubt people should cut the power instead of just having their HI-FI on standby if GB, or any country, can save 8% on the total power supply.
