Several news sites (Joystiq, Kotaku, MaxConsole) are reporting that Nintendo’s hot selling DS Lite console isn’t that durable. People are complaining about a cracked hinge when closing and opening the DS. A DS Lite owner who experienced his DS Lite hinge crack writes in the MaxConsole forums:
I treated my DS Lite like a baby, heck I even used a Nintendo brand case. I called Nintendo about 3 days ago and the rep said he won’t take it back because the warranty does not cover cracks and the guy said it must have been my fault and he could have it repaired for $50 (because its still under warranty). I grumbled to him and finally said I’d live with it.
From the numerous photos users submitted of their cracked DS Lites, it appears that it always the left hinge on the console, even though users treat the DS Lite “as a baby”. I’ve had mine since launch without any problems. However, this sure raises some concerns.

1Goddamn it. I just bought a DS LITE. I’ll die if it cracks. But even if it does crack, doesn’t it still works then? I hope so. I also saw this news on numerous other websites. It really is a pity, cause the DS LITE is such a perfect little wonder.

2Yeah it still works, but I would treat it really delicately if the crack appeared
