Chinese newspaper Commercial Times reports that the Taiwanese hardware manufacturer Asustek has begun producing and shipping PlayStation 3 consoles to Sony. This means that Sony has working production stage PS3 hardware, something that has been questioned lately. IBM recently said that the yields on the Cell chip were quite low, and last month we reported that Nvidia’s RSX chip wasn’t ready yet.
According to DigiTimes, Asustek received 200.000 component sets from suppliers, with the volume increasing this month. I September, Asustek will receive over a million component sets, which means that Sony will probably meet the goal of 2 million consoles at launch.
