Epic Game’s Unreal Engine 3 is one of the most advanced in the industry, and used by games such as UT 2007, Gears of War, and BioShock. Sony has announced that they have licensed the engine for their upcoming games for the PS3, and maybe even the PC. From Sony:

Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE), a global leader in the online games industry, today announced a licensing agreement with Epic Games to use their Unreal® Engine 3 technology for the development of content for some next-generation console and PC-based games. SOE will utilize this technology for a number of future projects, including the DC Comics-based game currently under development at SOE-Austin.

Currently more than 50 games are in development using the new technology. A license cost around $700,000 depending on the terms and usage.
