No Cheap Test Drive For Us Europeans

July 24th, 2006 Posted in Business, Offbeat, Software, Xbox 360

euro flagAtari has released a message saying that Europeans can expect to pay full price for Test Drive: Unlimited. Atari recently surprised gamers by announcing a $39.99 price tag on the new Xbox360 racing game. They excuse the Euro price by saying:

Although it’s likely to ignite some complaints, it’s worth remembering that Test Drive Unlimited should represent a full-blown next-generation title in every sense of the word, and far more deserving of your hard-earned cash then certain other Xbox 1.5 titles we could mention.

That’s marketing word for: “Screw the Europeans on this one”. What Atari perhaps doesn’t know, s that games in Europe are more expensive than the same games in the States. An Xbox360 game at $49.99 in US costs around $85 in Europe. If anyone deserves price cuts on games, it’s the Europeans.

I was interested, but now I’m not going to put up with us Europeans getting screwed again, I’ll pick up Splinter Cell: DA, Saint’s Row or Dead Rising instead. So go take a running jump Atari…
