According to the latest EGM podcast, Editor Dan Hsu claims that PS3 achievements will be called “Entitlements”. Of course they couldn’t just call them “Achievements”, that would be a blatant rip-off. Like with the innovative new controller.
Although this is a pure podcast rumor, considering the popularity of achievements for the Xbox360, it’s not hard to imagine Sony, and even Nintendo, doing something similar. Nevertheless, calling it “Entitlements” just sounds a bit, well, lame.

1First they copy Nintendo’s controller, then Xbox Live, and now this?
come on Sony, quit the copy-paste business plan.

2i as well think this is quite ridiculous on sony’s part… they are so arrogant about the system itself but then they go and copy microsoft’s truly original idea…? “entitlement” just sounds lame and doesn’t make me any more inclined to “entitle” new “entitlements”… haha

3And to add to the previous comments, Sony is really pushing it! Biting from Nintendo; carbon copying X-Box Live; a sky-high price for their next gen console; shock advertising for a white PSP; I read a blog on MSNBC where 60% of the people who participated in a poll said that they would not shell out the $600 for a new PS3! Even developers are complaining that the cost for making PS3 games is well above that of X-Box 360 and the upcoming Wii. It’s almost to the point where they can either hit or miss with this November launch(oh in case you didn’t know, the Wii’s going to have this war sewn up soon!). Now i’ve always been a die-hard PlayStation fan. But i gotta tell ya.. Sony had better be ready to pull some rabbits out of their hats- and fast!

4you say Sony is “stealing” from Microsoft and Sony?
who had created the first DVD/CD based consoles?
who had the EyeToy LONG before the “xbox camera”?
who had it so you could transport your saves to your friends house via a “memory card” of some kind?
who started the whole “two analog stick” controller scheme EVERYONE is using now?
come on, everyone takes ideas from everyone
and at least Sony is realizing Microsoft did SOMETHING right with their online plan.
so instead of bitching about how it’s such a LIVE ripoff, well just enjoy it, cause it’s going to be free, and have new things too.
so shush up!

7pj, uve got good points but microsoft and nintendo have expanded sonys ideas and basically made it into something thas thier own creation. all sony does is see the idea, redesign the shape and call it something else. thats copying. micro etc put so much more effets and ideas into it that its not copying, its thiers. have that.

8how do you “redesign” a harddrive?
i mean, sony’s service isn’t even out yet, i doubt ANYONE has used it yet, so saying they “stole something” is easy to say. when you actually sit down and use it, then you will be able to make a fairer decision on the matter.
maybe their “achievements” will be more tied into the games somehow?
maybe they are working on the implementation much differently.
Sony has always had the IDEA of expanding their online service and downloadable games, since PS1! only now do they see it as being workable.

10Hey PJ you sound really optimistic. Have you pre-ordered YOUR PS3 yet? You’d better as soon as the option becomes availabe. Last I heard, your boys over at Sony are going to come up short. “How can that be?,” you ask. EZ.. That’s just Sony lately.

12I don’t care about innovation, I care about getting what I want. This is a step in the right direction for Sony, but I’m not going to buy a PS3.
Ohhhh Yeah

pj shut up it was never Sony lol they robed everything else
dvd/cd —– Atari had it first (the jaguar) and also MEGA CD
eye toy —-was a rip off with home cameras on pc’s ( flash games ect)
Saves—–Nintendo had the whole save thing with floppys
the only thing i can give you is the two analog sticks but I’m quite sure there was a pad for the pc with two sticks
i doubt sony have created summat with there own ideas
but anywas i dont care its all free but what you have to think is this is supose to be “the next gen” and who has created nexted gen gaming crappy little nintendo they would be so much better with a advanced consle .. oh and more games instead of crappy kiddy ones

17Hello
1eyedSNAKE, you want 5 things that makes Halo great?
wll read Gamespot reviews and you’ll see, maybe it’s not the better game in history but it’s pretty good… and 4.82 million copies of Halo 3 sold (only in US) in 2007 are something, don’t you think?
