EA recently reported Q1 2006 earnings, where revenue increased 13% to $413 million, compared to last year. Overall net loss increased from $51 to $83 million.
After seeing how well Nintendo’s Wii was doing at E3, and the strong sales of the DS, they have now pledged more support for the two Nintendo platforms. More resources are allocated to current games in development, including six Wii games scheduled for release this fiscal year. An EA executive said:
“We have ramped up [game] production for the Wii and DS Lite’ following significant excitement over the Nintendo-created consoles at E3. First party Wii titles won’t be more than $49.99″
Nintendo has suggested that publishers do not charge more than $49.99 for a Wii game, which is the same price gamers pay for Xbox360 games. Seems to me $50 is a bit too high for Wii games, as Nintendo’s success might depend on just that, pricing strategy.
