AMD To Drop The ATI Brand?
According to CustomPC, graphics cards from ATI will end up being called “AMD Radeon”. They did an interview with AMD’s Gareth Carter, who assured that the new company would be called “AMD”, nothing more. AMD Marketing Manager Richard Baker, who was present at the interview, said that they weren’t sure whether the Radeon brand will also disappear alongside the ATI brand.
He also pointed out that the deal was in no way a merger, it was a complete takeover done by AMD. Chris Hook, Head of European PR at ATI responded to the interview by saying:
“I don’t have a personal emotional attachment to it, one way or another. I think the important thing is that we’re going to make good products. ATI may be gone, but certainly lots of discussion is going to come over the next few days about the rest of our brands and their strengths.”
