Pay To Play Battlefield 2142 Beta

August 9th, 2006 Posted in Action, MMO, Multiplayer, Online, PC

BF2142Fileplanet has gained the rights to distribute the Battlefield 2142 beta, scheduled for a release later this month. Of course, you have to be a paid subscriber in order to download the beta.

Does this sound like Dice/EA? Sure it does. With Battlefield 2, and now Battlefield 2142, their ability to squeeze a penny out of everything is unrivaled by any other game company. Try to read some of the replies to the news in the totalbf2142 forums, the anti Dice/EA rants have started long before the game is out. And for a good reason.

This comes as no surprise, but neither will it be a surprise to see the beta released on BitTorrent and other filesharing networks.

Are you kidding me? This is so rip-off, people are supposed to HELP EA with the beta…

  2. Mark Says:

Only reason I pay for FP is for beta’s. And we arent really going to be playing the beta. We will be playing the stress test. Giving battlefield 2’s bugs throughout the start of the game and the following months there will be bugs in the beta probably. My point is, we arent really going to be helping them too much.

  3. Bill Says:

Paying for a beta… give me a break. So if I am reading all of this nonsense correctly.. we have to pay a 3rd party to help EA work the bugs out of a game that will probably suck as much as BF2 if not more? I for one am swearing off of all EA/Dice games… waiting for ET: Quake Wars and Crysis personally….. screw EA/Dice!

  4. Razor Says:

Total BS. We shouldnt have to pay to beta test a game. They should give it free or even pay us!!?

I guess we used to do QA ourselves, then we outsourced it to India, now we get consumers to pay for the privelege of QA’ing.

This would not fly in any other industry…. it would be laughed at as if it was a joke.

    Total insanity.

  5. Sqitso Says:

STFU morons.. It’s real simple.. You can’t release an open beta and maintain control of your test base. By releasing to fileplanet they have a limited amount of testers which is better for developers. You pussies that want everything for free when you do absolutely nothing for it can shut the hell up. It’s real easy… EA doesn’t have to release a beta for anyone. So if they say they are and you have to pay a whole $2.85 to get it.. then that’s the way it is.. And yeah I pay file planet.. $2.85 a month so I can get access to betas like this. Less than a cup of coffee and I get access to everything. So quit being whiney bitches who can’t affrod $2.85 a month and shut the fuck up.

  6. fatty fatty fatpants Says:

i beleve some of the people here have a point… why would yo pay for a beta… THEY SUCK

  7. fatty fatty fatpants Says:

wtf i wasnt finished typing… neway there should be a limited and controlled amt of beta’s being tested not to just anyone who pays a buck… it should be like the 1st 1000, first come first serve, and the people who do get it should have to report bugs

  8. WhiteDog Says:

Hell, if EA and FilePlanet can get people to pay for the beta, then more power to them. Welcome to America…

  9. maslow Says:

Personally, I can wait for the offical release date. What kinda fool pays $2.85 monthly for beta? Hahahahaa, you guys crack me up, but the game industry loves you. aHahahahaha

  10. PREDATOR-SK Says:

Well i know $6 a month for bf2142 beta sounds tempting but im going stright to a bittorrent site and getting and if they somehow manage to keep it off them wel il just hack fileplanet, after i bought battlefield 2 the first day it was out i suffered with the bugs and the patches that did shit all so it seems wrong to make us pay for a beta.

  11. Ben Says:

    To Sqitso,
Its very easy for you to sound so “big” and bash all the people who do not want to pay for a damn Beta considering you probably pay for FP and will be getting the BETA anyways. Personally, I will wait until the game comes out, tested, and mostly bug-free. But, this country was built upon business and everyone wants to squeeze as much money as possible out of anything they can. If I could make money by having somone do something I would normally have to pay for….I would, adn so would you. I can wait until the game comes out, BF2 will keep me held over until then…..EA rocks, but Dice blows penis……

  12. Nick Says:

I happen to be signed up, and a subscriber to the Founders Club. I didnt even know about the BF2142 beta until after i signed up. You are NOT paying for the beta. You are paying for the freakishly fast fileplanet download servers, hitpoints, and a mag subscription (if you choose to get it). stop whining. you knew it was gonna be this way. it always has.

  13. Mythran Says:

    TO Sqitso
I Agree 100% screw all the timmy’s who arent even old enuf to get a credit card to apply for fileplanet for a meesly 3.00 a month or rougly around there. Any person can whine and hollar about having to pay to get into a beta. I signed up for fileplanet to get fast DL’s..not because I dont have the time to wait, but because for 3 dollars, I get immideate service at 600+KBPS but also as a BONUS the betas…so anyone saying that EA and DICE are feinds…your right…im no real fan either…but you better deal with it cause you cant do anything about it!

  14. ledbythereaper Says:

Right.. what EA should have done is asked for applicants on their website like most other respectable companies do. By releasing the beta to only people that pay is not going to help atall. For all they know everyone beta testing could have high end rigs which won’t help. EA need to get you to apply, pick 250 with low end rigs, 250 with medium rigs, 250 with high end and then a few randoms, like people on dial up, or people with ageia cards and things like that. I’ll just wait for this beta to appear on demonoid, it shouldn’t take too long and if it’s not as buggy as BF2 then I’ll actually go out and buy it. So stop whining that people are ‘pussies’ or too tight to pay for it. I don’t see the point in paying $3 a month, even if it is cheap for download servers i’ll NEVER use, a magazine that i’ll never read and points to download games i could get via torrents.

  15. who cares Says:

Tried the Bf2 demo and then bought Bf2 and it worked great! Then comes patch 1.3 to break everything. Till these people fix bf2 why in the hell would I help them out. Been trying to play 1.4 with still drops to desktop and connection problems. They should take applications on thier website to get a good mix for testing. The way they have it setup is only for the money. They are not instrested in working products.

I hope I’m wrong. EA / Dice prove me wrong.

Cant play Bf2 over 5minutes with out connection being dropped. tried everything, gave up a month back. My money will no be going to Ea /Dice , well @ least DICE

Sqitso $2.85 no big deal, but think about the people without an account signing up to get the Beta only to have to go thru hell and still end up with a game that does not work.

I hope im wrong just going by thier track record.

FYI- Sqitso STFU you talk out your as. get a job in development then comment you fark

  16. blobblob Says:

Whats the fuss about? 1 Million People have been paying for the Battlefield 2 Beta for over a year now!

Anyway, EA just dont have enough money- im donating £50 a day to them – i see them as a charity.
Later this year, ill put my house up for auction and give them the proceeds.

They are such a lovely company

  17. sum1 Says:

The BETA’s technically are free….like Nick said EA just goes after pay SITES and asks for a little profit from each download. It’s sorta rippn u off in a way but looking at it in a good sense…your getting an AWESOME game for about 3 bucks instead of the insane 60. So there are reasons to whine AND reasons to like it…just stop cyberyelling at eachother, geez…

  18. nuckle-ed Says:

Now I’m starting to understand EA. BF2 was a beta for 2142. It’s all starting to make sense now.
Like when I’d had a gut full of the probs with Euro Forces to the point I wanted a refund. Their response “we do not give refunds”
That’s nice. Lets ignore that this customer whose spent money and purchased BF2 (and Special Forces) and wanted to spend some more. Lets tell him to just go bite the big one. There are enough new saps buying our products to keep us afloat!
They don’t care what you or any beta tester says, or BF2 would work fine, everytime.
Take heart that there are other products like Enemy Terrotory on the way that are being built by some real pros and that it will be released when it’s ready! That’s how it should be.

  19. Ben Says:

Its ok for someone to pay money to Fileplanet to get “faster” downloads but to only allow those people to have access to the BETA is simply not fair, in fact, its borderline discrimination. I dont need a subscription to File Planet because considering the amount of files I actually would d/l from them it would be a waste of money. The Beta should be made available to everyone and have a built in reporting tool that sends the bugs, .dmp files etc. to EA or Dice for inspection, much like Windows has. This would provide EA with every possible tool they need to make the game better for the customer, every customer, not just a select group. I enjoy playing these games as a hobby, not a lifestyle like many people do. Some people will actually consume themselves so much into a game that they forget the world that surrounds them. I personally believe this is what EA/Dice’s plan is, to only cater to the individuals who spend 23hrs a day playing their game. I am not whining, cyberyelling, complaining, or anything like that, I am simply tryign to prove a point by saying EA/Dice should provide the BETA to everyone at no charge. So there :P

  20. lol Says:

EA Customer Whine Support How May We Help You?

  21. Ravensong Says:

Man this game is fun as hell !!! Thank god I was a fileplanet subscriber so i didnt have to fill out some gay form and never be selected… PRAISE EA/DICE/Fileplanet… Fileplanet customer for 3 years :D WooOoOoOO Life is great… with BF2142 HAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!

  22. SomeoneSomewhere Says:

Microsoft kicks her Beta for Free, AutoAssault (MMORPG with cars) kicks her Beta for Free, Seedler was for Free…..because all these Appz where not finished and very buggy, so they decided to make their Beta for free. Think about it….

  23. Ben Says:

I figure it like this (I know I am rambling), but why woudl I pay for the BETA, and then turn around and pay for the game? I can wait until it comes out (mostly bug free…..ya right) and just go buy it. I figure the people who paid for File Planet are going to spend about twice what I will for the game, and there is not that much joy to playing a BETA, seriously. I work for a company where i get my hands on things that most people only dream about, and thats before they even know it exists, so I get my joy, one way or another……

  24. HyPNOS Says:

heh…i got in the FP beta for free, after the whole “Pay to join the BETA crap” they opened it to people who justed signed up for a free FP username. I got lucky and got a key :)

..but yeh, at first it was payed FP accounts only who could apply for the BETA

  25. Topcat Says:

You dont have to pay for the beta download… Scroll down on the fileplanet beta 2142 page… there are the public stuff, with wait time…

  26. nob Says:

    let me play it
