Counter Strike Source Updates Coming

csValve mentions in the weekly update news that there would be some changes done to Counter Strike Source. First of all, they’re doing a remake of the most popular maps with full HDR support (only 2 maps currently support HDR, the classic de_dust, and cs_militia), the newest map supporting HDR will be de_train.

The other big update will be a remake of the radar system, as Valve puts it:

The second facet of this release will be a completely reworked radar system. There will be a significant change to the aesthetics of the radar, but there are also some significant gameplay ramifications to the new system. One example: when you look directly at an enemy for a long enough time for their name to appear on your screen, everyone on your team will be able to see that enemy in the radar. We’re planning on releasing this first update in about two weeks.

There would probably be a lot of CS fanboys going nuts over this, but I think it’s a step in the right direction. Many gamers, including myself, have moved on to other games like Battlefield 2 (despite its huge flaws), simply because CS:Source isn’t evolving anymore. There are only a few new maps, no new weapons or game modes or playable characters. Hopefully a few new additions and changes would bring back some of the “old” CS crowd.
