Nintendo VP of Marketing and Corporate Communications, George Harrison, has revealed that the Wii version of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will not be able to use the GameCube controller at all.
There are 4 GameCube controller ports on the Wii, for some Wii games and for games offered via Nintendo’s Virtual Console. Because of the way Zelda: TP uses the Wiimote, it cannot be done with the simple GC pad. For that, you’ll have to get the GameCube version.
Harrison also announced that there will be brand new Virtual Console games coming to the Wii, besides just the classic games.
He stated the following:

Virtual console offers the possibility for us to create new games, but our focus right now is in getting the Wii hardware launched and new games from Nintendo on the virtual console will be coming sometime after the launch.”
