PS3 Not In Production Yet
August 19th, 2006 by Darren Stevens in Business
SCEA president Kaz Hirai was interviewed by GameSpot, where he revealed that the PlayStation 3 isn’t in production yet, as some rumors suggested. He also mentioned that there might be shortages of the PS3 this year. 2 million consoles are expected to be available in 2006, where the US and Japan will receive more than Europe.
Hirai says that shortages will happen because it’s “just a logistical impossibility” (to have enough units for everyone). He mentioned to GameSpot that the console is not in production yet, they have just reviewed the production stages in China, where things are looking fine.
So less than 3 months to launch and the consoles aren’t in production yet? Seems a bit unrealistic to expect 2 million consoles ready, which is probably the reason why Hirai warns of shortages.
