EA Buying Crytek?

August 26th, 2006 Posted in Business, PC, Rumor, Software by Darren Stevens

crytekA German newspaper suggest that EA might be buying Crytek, the developers of Far Cry and the upcoming Crysis. EA has already secured the publishing rights to Crysis, and according to Die Welt, EA’s Gerhard Florin describes Crytek as a “very very interesting candidate” for an acquisition.

Co-founder of Crytek, Faruk Yerli confirmed they have been talking business with EA, but declined to mention anything about a takeover. He did mention however, that Crytek might be considering an initial public offering.

Considering that EA is already the publisher of Crysis, it wouldn’t be much surprise if the acquisition rumor turns out to be true. Only a week ago, EA bought another German developer, Phenomic.
