   Well that sure is pathetic. Leave it to Sony to Hype the shit outta Ps3 and about how the next gen of HD systems dont start till they say then they don’t even give you the cable to hook it up properly.

   i think it’s a good thing to ship without the HDMI cable if it means cutting cost slightly. not everyone has a TV with HDMI input/output.

   my TV doesn’t even have HDMI, it uses DVI which is basically the samething except i have one of those cables with HDMI at one end and DVI at the other end.

   good decision Sony!

   And anyone who’s going to be using an HDMI cable with their 1080p set can more than afford to get one seperately.
   PS3 is not for poor people.

   The news sites just can’t stop writing negative stuff about Sony. Of course Sony will not ship PS3 with a HDMI cable, why should they. Not many people have TV’s with HDMI, and how long should the cable be? 1 meter, 3 meter?. I need 5 meter. Just stop writing totally meaningless stuff.

   Hahahahahhaha. Thats the stupidest thing I have ever heard. You have to sell to the majority and I’m pretty sure the majority of people don’t have an extra 600 bucks lying around and taking out incentives, like the HDMI cable, only makes it look worse.

   Why do you have to sell to the majority? If Sony wants a selective audience, then they can get it. What, are you telling me that, as a guy, you feel offended because they don’t make bras in your size?

   Did…did you honestly just compare selling a piece of hardware to consumers to buying bras…bras for GUYS of all things? Majority is relative to who you’re selling to. Guys don’t need bras…so why would you even bring that up?

   And yes, you sell to the majority, or else you won’t make a dime of money. I can even use Sony as an example for this one.

   When the PS2 was first coming out, one big thing was the DVD playback. Hell, the thing could play a DVD! Most people knew that DVDs were going to be the next big thing in the entertainment business and that influenced their decision to buy a PS2 greatly.

   Now all you get is Blu-Ray support and most people have no idea what Blu-Ray is other than they might have heard it on a commercial or two. Hence, the majority of people will just see the PS3 as a big expensive game playing machine - not an extra device such as the DVD player.

   And generally speaking, those consoles sold only to a “selective audience” usually end up in the bargain bins…like the Sega CD for example or the Dreamcast, which was over shadowed by the PS2, which was marketed for the mass, or majority, consumer.

    On the contrary, PS3 IS for poor people. They save up their $660 for a PS3 and one game (plus tax), they don’t need an HDMI cable, but they may need a VCR to hook it up to their TV, then after they are done spending their money, they are poor.

    I’d say the majority of people that buy the PS3 will eventually be poor.

    1. Not everyone has TVs that can support HD or HDMI, this is true. So why force them to buy a blu-ray player at all?

    2. I’m glad you think sony is making a good decision, because chances are you’re going to have to use a sony adapter to use dvi-hdmi converter. Glad you like spending money!

    who even HAS a 1080p set?

    if i was to buy a ps3 i’d be buying a lot of things i wouldn’t use.

    I work at best buy and we only sell high end TV’s that do 1080p through HDMI. Some info to clear up for the masses. Outside of tube TV’s Hi-Def TVs can only display progressive. a 1080i feed will not draw half the lines on one pass and the others on the next. They will be drawn at once. This is how progressive works. The big benefit of HDMI is the two way communication and the fact that the TV not the gamesystem is creating the picture.

    Second Most Tv’s purchased in the last two years can’t do 1080p through HDMI because the standard for the TV connection had not been finilized. The vast majority of TV’s cannot do 1080p through HDMI. This would have caused mass confusion for kids. However the experts at the store can make a recommendation on what cable to get and keep PS3 prices down.

    Third the Hi-def and Blue-Ray players shipped with 4 ft cables. For the most part they were all replaced because they were not long enough or poor quality(not enough shielding) A good quality cable will cost you over $80 for a 4″ to over $200 for a 12″. Most 1080p purchases were for wall mounted TV’s with cables run behind the wall.

    Sony built a machine for the future. Hi-Def Tv’s are outselling standard def TV’s for the first time and the distance is dramatic. Hi-def pictures are exceptional and HDMI has gatered enough steam that we are selling more then ever. Sony may add the HDMI to the box latter but now is not the time. Smart move Sony.

    The PS3 is going to last 10 years thats why it needs to have the leatest tech in it even tech that isnt really out there yet like 1080p but its the future so i cant complain and neither can any people around here.

    if you complain about Sony putting top notch tech in the PS3 then you are just an anti-sony.

    yes it was a smart move not to include the cable i agree. but was the blueray player also a smart move? it adds more than $80-$200 on to the overall price and not all users will want one. it will go against them as time goes on, because stand-alone players will become cheaper and cheaper, with more features than the ps3 one, it will soon be more efficient to buy a standalone player.

    anti-sony? lol don’t try to lable people. you’re anti microsoft for saying that.
    the problem with releasing “nop notch” technology, is that it’s so expensive, and according to murpheys law (which has been true so far), computers double in speed every 2 years and half in price. so even the ps3, in 2-4 years, will be outdated technology. so why spend $600 now? why not wait until it’s cheaper or until there’s something in equivilent tech for cheaper? if you look at the technology market, you’ll realise that this kind of thing happens; and will keep on happening.

    The best technology is alwasy expensive at 1st then over time it comes down in price.

    people spedn 300$ to buy ipod they can easly put another 300$ to have the best video game high def. console ever made.

    the average american can easily afford a PS3 and Blu-Ray flickz.

    $50, $80, $200 for an HDMI cable???

    I just bought 3 of them (10 ft.) from monoprice.com for $25.61 total, that price includes priority shipping. w/o shipping they are $6.02 each.

    This is not a big deal at all. it will not change nobody’s mind of buying a PS3 anyways!
