I just bought 3 of them (10 ft.) from monoprice.com for $25.61 total, that price includes priority shipping. w/o shipping they are $6.02 each.

people spedn 300$ to buy ipod they can easly put another 300$ to have the best video game high def. console ever made.

the average american can easily afford a PS3 and Blu-Ray flickz.

yes it was a smart move not to include the cable i agree. but was the blueray player also a smart move? it adds more than $80-$200 on to the overall price and not all users will want one. it will go against them as time goes on, because stand-alone players will become cheaper and cheaper, with more features than the ps3 one, it will soon be more efficient to buy a standalone player.

the problem with releasing “nop notch” technology, is that it’s so expensive, and according to murpheys law (which has been true so far), computers double in speed every 2 years and half in price. so even the ps3, in 2-4 years, will be outdated technology. so why spend $600 now? why not wait until it’s cheaper or until there’s something in equivilent tech for cheaper? if you look at the technology market, you’ll realise that this kind of thing happens; and will keep on happening.

Second Most Tv’s purchased in the last two years can’t do 1080p through HDMI because the standard for the TV connection had not been finilized. The vast majority of TV’s cannot do 1080p through HDMI. This would have caused mass confusion for kids. However the experts at the store can make a recommendation on what cable to get and keep PS3 prices down.

Third the Hi-def and Blue-Ray players shipped with 4 ft cables. For the most part they were all replaced because they were not long enough or poor quality(not enough shielding) A good quality cable will cost you over $80 for a 4″ to over $200 for a 12″. Most 1080p purchases were for wall mounted TV’s with cables run behind the wall.

Sony built a machine for the future. Hi-Def Tv’s are outselling standard def TV’s for the first time and the distance is dramatic. Hi-def pictures are exceptional and HDMI has gatered enough steam that we are selling more then ever. Sony may add the HDMI to the box latter but now is not the time. Smart move Sony.

if i was to buy a ps3 i’d be buying a lot of things i wouldn’t use.

i think it’s a good thing to ship without the HDMI cable if it means cutting cost slightly. not everyone has a TV with HDMI input/output.

my TV doesn’t even have HDMI, it uses DVI which is basically the samething except i have one of those cables with HDMI at one end and DVI at the other end.

I’d say the majority of people that buy the PS3 will eventually be poor.

And yes, you sell to the majority, or else you won’t make a dime of money. I can even use Sony as an example for this one.

When the PS2 was first coming out, one big thing was the DVD playback. Hell, the thing could play a DVD! Most people knew that DVDs were going to be the next big thing in the entertainment business and that influenced their decision to buy a PS2 greatly.

Now all you get is Blu-Ray support and most people have no idea what Blu-Ray is other than they might have heard it on a commercial or two. Hence, the majority of people will just see the PS3 as a big expensive game playing machine – not an extra device such as the DVD player.

And generally speaking, those consoles sold only to a “selective audience” usually end up in the bargain bins…like the Sega CD for example or the Dreamcast, which was over shadowed by the PS2, which was marketed for the mass, or majority, consumer.
