Razer’s high end gaming mouse is for the serious FPS player, a 2000DPI, 1000Hz monster, but will it improve your game? Read on to find out.

Razer is known for producing high quality gaming mice, their flagship is called the “Copperhead”, a laser mouse sporting a 2000 DPI resolution with 1000Hz Ultrapoling. This means higher accuracy and lower latency (only 1ms) for gamers, FPS gamers, to be precise. It has built in 32KB of memory, where you can save up to 5 different configurations.

The mouse itself is rather lightweight, and designed a bit differently than regular mice. The scroll wheel, for instance, is placed a bit too far at the top. The design is not meant for you to “rest” you hand on the entire body, but rather keep it “floating” above the mouse, using only your fingers to control it. This results in very accurate and fast maneuvers, but takes some time to get used to. There are seven fully programmable buttons that you can configure using the bundled software. The mouse glows in three available colors, Green, Red, and Blue. One major downside is that you cannot turn the light off.

Since it’s a mouse for the CS-crowd, I tested it in three of the most popular games, Counter-Strike: Source, UT2004, and Battlefield 2.

The mouse performed great, it takes a few hours of gaming to get adjusted to the high DPI, but once you’re there, it really improves your game. There’s not a big difference when it’s a 1on1 showdown, but when you’re facing 2, or 3 enemies, the mouse makes it a lot easier to move from one head to another, usually resulting in a couple of headshots and the victims crying “HaX0r!”. The motion is very fluent and extremely precise; you can pinpoint individual pixels with your sniper, and then make a 180 degree turn in a millisecond.

However, the mouse won’t do much good in regular desktop use, it’s not ergonomic, since you cannot rest your hand on it properly. You’ll also probably set the sensitivity down when not playing.

Final verdict
I was a bit skeptical if a simple mouse upgrade could improve your game, but the Razer Copperhead certainly manages to do just that. Even though it’s quite expensive, $59.99, it’s certainly worth it. The difference is noticeable in every game I played.
