PS2 Price Cut Coming In Japan

Sony has announced PS2 price cuts before the grand launch of the PlayStation 3. The new price will be 19% lower than before, at 16,000 Yen, or $138. Sony currently sells the PS2 at 19,800 Yen, but retailers are free to set their own price, usually a few thousand Yen below Sony’s price.
The new suggested retail price of 16,000 Yen counts the black and white PS2 Slim editions, and will start selling with the new price tag on September 15th. Sony has previously said that the PS2 will remain in production for a long time after the PS3 launch.
