Of course, this has absolutely nothing to do with the failure rate of PS2s, does it?

My first PS2 completely died after a year and a half of not even what one would consider “normal use.” One day I popped in a game, got the “Disc Read Error” message. Seemed to fix itself after resetting, but then became more frequent, until, finally, no matter what type of disk was put in it (DVD movie, DVD game, CD game, CD music), it would give me nothing but “Disc Read Error” messages.

My launch unit PS had to be upside down after 6 months or it wouldn’t play games.

I know people who are on their 3rd PS2 consoles, because they just keep breaking, but I also know people who got lucky and still have launch PS2s that work fine.

Remember, Sony lost a class action lawsuit about the “Disc Read Error” messages because they claimed it was a fluke, that it was happening to a very minute amount of units, and that they would not fix it. Now, all you have to do to get a free repair or a new PS2 in the US when you call them is mention “Disc Read Error” and have the serial number show it is from a certain time of manufacture. They wouldn’t have lost the class action suit if the problems weren’t real or were as small as they claimed.

Sony’s track record for quality control with the PS and PS2 is quite poor, and their lack of quality control obviously has nothing to do with how many PS and PS2s were sold because units kept breaking, right? Lots of people don’t bother with customer support because most companies’ customer support is horrible, and it is just easier to go get a new item to replace the broken one. Plus, I think the US is the only country where they had the lawsuit, and lost it, so around the world many people are probably SOL and just have to buy new units.

But, I;m certain that this hasn’t inflated the number of consoles sold, at all…

It’s just as if I posted somthing about how I think the DS would win, people would comment on it as well.

The PSP may not be dead, but at a 2:1 NDS:PSP ratio in the US and a 8:1 in Japan, it’s not looking good for the PSP. When these so-called “kiddy” NDS titles sell better/get better reviews than anything else on the PSP, it makes a good referance for how well both handhelds are doing.

It’s not like you hve the possibility of doing any of those things with the DS and Wii. Not at all. >_>
However, considering how well the PSP is selling, I doubt that a being a glorified remote for the PS3 will sell it any more.
