Wii To Be Profitable At Launch

Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime said during a recent interview that the Wii will be profitable “out of the box”.
“We will make a profit on the entire Wii proposition out of the box — hardware and software… That really is a very different philosophy versus our competitors. We are a company that competes only in the interactive entertainment space so we have to make a profit on every thing we do.”
Microsoft has said their Xbox360 loses money on every console sold, and industry analysts think that Sony is certainly loses money on the $600 PS3. But it’s of no surprise that Nintendo will be making money on Wii when it launches, same thing happened with the GameCube vs. PS2 and Xbox.
The main reason the Wii can turn profits from day one is of course the price of Wii hardware. Most of it is built on existing GameCube technology, and is therefore far cheaper, but also less powerful console than its counterparts.

Really Hue Jazz, because I was under the impression that Motion-sensing IS new tech, game wise.
Microsoft and Sony are screwed in the long run, as all their Gen7 consoles are are upgraded versions of their predicessors. The Wii, however, is somthing entirely new, with a new control plan.

Really.. they’re game consoles made to play games on. Whatever your preferance, Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo, you’re still going to be playing games, and you’re still going to have fun.
But what I, personally, like about the Wii, is that it’s different. Playing games on the Wii is going to be a lot different, and from reports so far - the difference is a good one. It may not have the processing power of the other consoles, but that’s not what games are about. If power = fun, then tinkering around with a supercomputer would be better than sex. It doesn’t have to be the latest, the greatest, the larger capacity, the whatever - it’s a console. It’s made for fun. And as long as you’re happy with your purchase then who really gives a crap. There’s no point saying one is better than the other, because it’s each and every one of us’s personal choice. It doesn’t matter if one console isn’t as popular as the others, all that matters is that you’re happy with what you have.

1st all the gameplay it self isnt for everyone and the games arent for everyone, the games are more of the same with a gimmick, the same games you played in the game cube WITH THE SAME GRAPHICS and just moving them with a gimmick, its not impressive at all.

The games are fun and original, and the graphics don’t matter- It’s the ART DIRECTION. Somthing which the PS3 games lack.

Wrong. The Wii has much more advanced than 90’s technology. The only thing that uses 90’st ech is the PS3’s motion sensing and the EyeToy.

In bizzaro world prehaps, but it’s surely the other way around. As the Wii’s popularity over the PS3’s blunders, pared with awesome games(Not to say MGS 4 isn’t, but that’s kinda what the PS3 has going for it), makes it a much better contender. It has an expiriance you can’t find anywhere else, whereas you can find good graphics on the XBox 360 for a much lower price.

I often don’t make assumtions in advance, but I’ve figured out somthing.
Sony looses money on each PS3 sold. The PS3 has only 400,000 units available at launch in the US.
Nintendo makes money on each Wii Sold. There will be

Hey you can even play such games on PSP though bit hard this days but i have my friend who owns two PSP’s one for all the good hot video games out now and the other for playing classic games the likes of Sonic and Shining Force on the PSP yep on the go!

Wii will sell well at launch do to the price of it and fun factor. however how long does fun last ? lol how long does fun last when you are playin basketball at a court until you get tired .so my point is this . the Wii will be Fun for about 4 years most then graphics will start to be fun lookin (on the ps3/360)and fun will be when these same people see the 360 or ps3 at a lower price then usually thats when the jump will be made so graphics do matter if that wasnt the case we still would be playin atari’s also im sick of people sayin the ps3 is too much money when it is not its just a reason or way to diss Sony when in fact the 360 is even more then the ps3 with add ons and xbox live . they just used a cloak technique to disquise the real price in the long run lmao hell the Wii is gone add up to when you buy all those Wiimote and controllers ,plus they are gone charge a internet fee after 7 months ? so really all consoles are expensive not just one
