Review: Star Fox Command

Star Fox Command takes place right after the events that occurred in the GameCube game, Star Fox Assault. Unfortunately, I have not gotten the chance to even touch Star Fox Assault, so you may imagine my confusion when I found that there were several new characters that have been introduced since my last Star Fox game, Star Fox 64. What I do know is Star Fox Command is indeed a very solid title for the DS, and is defiantly worth a peek.
Star Fox Command has two phases during gameplay. One strategic, similar to the Advanced Wars series, and one action, which are the typical Star Fox aerial battles we are so used to playing. There are no foot missions in Command at all, so expect a lot of dog fighting. Similar to Advanced Wars Dual Strike, you will use your stylus to draw a path for your character to follow and other attack enemies or mother ships, while protecting your own mother ship (yes, the Great Fox) and killing off enemies. The map screen will have certain icons that indicate enemies, allies, missiles, and mother ships. Your mission is completed once you destroy all mother ships and enemy fighters on the screen.
When on the moving screen, you will run into enemy crafts on the map. Thankfully, the Great Fox can be used to shoot missiles at some of these enemies, and destroy them in one shot. After you run into an enemy, you can freely fly wherever on the map you’d like to hunt down your opponents. Just take note that you have a time limit to destroy all of the ships, and if you don’t complete your mission before the time runs out, your fuel will run out and you will fail the mission.
The storyline is rather short. There are a ton of decisions you can make that affect the story, making a total of 9 different stories. Each story wasn’t exactly deep at all, but in all honesty, I skipped through nearly all of the scenes, thanks to the annoying gibberish speak of every character in the game. Although you do have the option of making a character speak with a voice similar to yours, it still gets very annoying.
Star Fox Command is a very solid DS title, with extremely smooth control, and addicting gameplay. Online multiplayer over WiFi is a huge plus to the game, as well as the colorful and crisp presentation. Star Fox Command is a solid title in the series, and will keep you occupied for a long while.

The missiles are too tedious and repetitive though

The enemies are too. I didn’t really have a problem with that.
