MTV Acquires Harmonix

Cable television station MTV is paying $175 million in cash to acquire music-oriented video game developer, Harmonix Music Systems.
Harmonix, most famous for their hit game Guitar Hero, is becoming acquired with MTV so the company can give more exposure to its websites, new virtual worlds, and planned mobile services that will allow people to play and remix their favorite songs.
Christina Norman, president of MTV, has stated:
It is about people coming to MTV who are passionate about music and wanting to interact on deeper and deeper levels. It’s not just about wearing the T-shirt.
MTV executives hope to be able to promote other upcoming Harmonix games, as well as their karaoke game programs that have been developed. They also stated that they would love for the programs to be available on their websites and VMTV, which is the upcoming virtual world MTV that will be introduced next year.
