Microsoft’s HD-DVD add-on for the Xbox360 will launch this November for $199 in the US, €199 in Europe and £129 in the UK. It will be bundled with an Xbox360 Media remote and (for a limited time) a HD-DVD copy of Peter Jackson’s King Kong.

The add-on will make the Xbox360 one of the cheapest HD-DVD player for a long time to come, but will still end up costing just as much as a PS3 with built-in Blu-ray player. Let the format wars begin!

No thanks for now, Microsoft. But thanks for offering. Maybe if there was an unbundled version that costs less, I’d go for it.

That price is just too high when you stack the console up against the PS/3 which features HDMI and an integrated BRHD that can be used to play future games unlike the add offering from MS. And through in the MUCH larger hard drive you get with the PS/3 and you see that HERE is where MS has dropped the ball. I own a 360 and I’m pretty happy but man this is disappointing … I mean if you have $600 which system are you really apt to buy? Sorry MS but you blew it here imo.

yeah i don’t think i’ll be buying it either… no reason to except to watch HD-DVD’s and its really stupid to go out and buy a specific format until one is chosen.

    at least it’s optional =]
