Analyst David Gibson from Macquarie Equities reports that the PlayStation 3 experienced some overheating during the Tokyo Game Show event.
“While the reason for this is unknown, we suspect it may be due to overheating as a result of enclosing the units and the high temperatures at the venue. We are concerned that such a problem has occurred so close to full production and is clearly negative news for the company.”
It’s perfectly understandable that consoles (and general hardware) will overheat if there is poor ventilation, which is common during trade shows. Sony responded by saying “for a normal player at home, there shouldn’t be any problem.”, but apparently the analysts didn’t quite get it; the Sony share dropped 2.75% today.

1Is no console safe from OH? Oh yeah … the Wii definitely won’t overheat since it isn’t using any extreme technology.

2Well that’s to be expected. Add the air conditioning that will have to be blowing directly on the PS3 to the cost of the console.

4Lets hope the warranty and problems will be handled better than what Microsoft did with the 360. It cant be worse than all the faulty 360 but hey these are the same guys who made “Disk Read Error” so fucking annoying. That made me turn in 2 PS2s and on my third right now.

8There is KNOW RESAON AT ALL to be worried about the ps3 hardware. It would cost 299.99 and 399.99 if the hardware were “cheap.” We will be paying a premium price for a premium product. And we ALL know that sony’s tech support is the sh** if something does go wrong.

10My 360 overheated and died as well, but I have to admit - Microsoft handled it all very well, and replaced it quickly. The whole ordeal was pretty easy actually.
