PS3 Remote And Web Browser Pics
October 3rd, 2006 Posted in Hardware, Online, Software, Technology
Sony showed off their PlayStation 3 at CEATEC Japan 2006, and for the first time in public, the PS3 remote was displayed. It looks a bit slimmer and longer than the PS2 remote and uses Bluetooth this time. The PS3 web browsing capabilities were also displayed. Unlike the Wii browser, the PS3 one is bundled with the console at no extra cost. More shots of the remote and browser after the jump, including a video demonstration of the interface.

Why doesn’t Sony put any time into there peripherals, the controllers are years old, and that remote looks dated as hell.
October 3rd, 2006 at 4:31 pm
Very un-original. I’m not impressed. This does not look like that new cool looking shiny look that the 360 has. It looks like U can buy it from a damn pawn shop!

Actually I have a sony dvd player from 99 and it has a remote just like this.

wii will wii will su-uck
October 5th, 2006 at 2:25 am
well who cares what it looks like .. its how it preforms you want to worry about
October 5th, 2006 at 5:04 pm
Don’t worry Taylor2k with the track record of Sony (Disk Read Error) and with the high percentage of faulty 360s we are all worrying about the PS3 with rumored and probably long loading times, overheating, and probably more Disk Read Errors that we are all so comfortable with. T
The Wii will probably have some sensor bar problems and suff 2. Just don’t buy all those faulty systems at launch.

Hit the nail right on the head STD thats why i bought my ps2 at the right moment (slimline) and its never gave me any grief

Not that it really matters, but yes, that remote looks really dated. But then again, it’s just a f…… remote
(f…… = farting)

has anyone noticed that sonys stands are starting to look more and more like nintendos
October 9th, 2006 at 8:37 am
i dony mean the ps3 pads and stuff cause there rubbish but the layouts the same!!!!
October 9th, 2006 at 6:37 pm
To Dom :
the logical reason for the pads being the same is
well..
if the method works (eg pad being the shape)
then why change it ? .
most people have gotten used to that design so basically good move for sony . used something thats been tried and tested before and have been sucessful (the pad i mean!) and add to it not completly change it

Looks functional.
Wish they just did the normal mouse and keyboard thingy, that will bring msn and other shit to the homes and gives the pc a good run for it’s money.
October 10th, 2006 at 4:29 pm
Doom . i aint starting no argument .. just stating a fact (that i think you know already)
Ps3 running on a linux backend – so theoretacaly msn could be possible i suppose if it access to linux and keyboard and mouse shouldnt be a problem .. since there is usb on the ps3
and also ps3 cant give a pc its run for its money because pc still has a couple of key factors that ps3 cant do
atx motherboard , agp,pci woulde mean the main things because a pc itself can be upgraded by
1.graphics
2.processor
3.motherboard
4.harddrives
5.cd/dvd/ and coming soon .. hddvd/bluray
6.memory
7.more stuff can be done on pc … legally and illegally
8.already supported hi def (in res wise)
and alot more..
anyone else who can add to this?
so basically whilst a console claim to give a pc a run for its money in truth they can’t because basically pc updates come faster then consoles .. and pc can add stuff eg.. (old 3dfx updated to ati x300) and its easy as that becuase the way its built .. and well ps3 graphics are onboard and cant be easily replace by somthing better
so …
PC = Anything Goes Ps3=your stuck with whats there (Maybe not the hdd .. but everything else)
October 10th, 2006 at 5:08 pm
PS3 won’t be as good as a PC. No way! The PC is your ultimate multimedia system not the 360, not the PS3, and certainly not the Wii. We should start focusing more on the core games of these systems and not their extra features.
October 10th, 2006 at 7:30 pm
To STD
I really wanna correct your comment
“PS3 Won’t be as good as a PC”
You got it wrong
its as follows
PS3 ..oh wait no no
PS3,XB360,And the wii can’t beat the pc
even if they tried ..
and for any people who see this and say yes it could we could put this this and this here and modifiable things .. then guess what .. they already make it .. its a pc
sorry STD but i did need to correct it .. and im sure you’ll agree anyways

Maybe in the future consoles will be the new pc. But Not today.
hm taylor I’m willing to go with you that the ps3 ofcourse wont replace pc. However you fail to see something that has made home consoles so populair in the first place.
Easyness of use
price
For a high end pc you are easily loosing 400 bucks on a yearly basis. For a ps3 or xbox360 or whatever, more like 500 in each 5 years.
And with keyboard I ment the other extensions ofcourse, however I dont think it’s completely impossible to just make a port thingy on it so that u can just use the usb peripherals on it. But I think the 2 big consoles haven’t implemented chatting so far, since it is so easy to accomplish.
Just a money reason really, chatting = not playing games = buying games.
But, I’m a pc user at heart as well. Sometimes though, I just like to smash the shit out of my friends with soul caliber III or whatever just for laziness, couch + beer + fighting game is still not done on the pc:P

also btw I forgot:
PC = Anything Goes Ps3=your stuck with whats there
While this is bad in a way. This is actually also a good thing. You see because the BD is standard on ps3 (look at dvd PS2), the developers can actually use a new medium without cutting in their consumer base. I mean, at the pc we only have had dvd titles running for what, 1 year tops? Whilst ps2 was there 5 years ago. Same with bd. The first HD or BD titles for the pc will take very long to come. (which is a missed chance in my opinion, since more space makes for less piracy. Try downloading a 25 gigabyte file for a game:P)
And another thing I think: 1 standard system makes programmers program better and watch at the FPS for a change. I hate a game that is overhyped onthe pc, and then has ridiculous system reqs due to sneaky marketing.
Just look at the last gen titles on ps2. I think in the early days you could compare ps2 with a 1 mhz pc? But that’s just a personal thing, I love to see solid titles made with constraints:P:P

“For a high end pc you are easily loosing 400 bucks on a yearly basis. For a ps3 or xbox360 or whatever, more like 500 in each 5 years.”
… but still a good point
good point but building one yourself will be cheaper and more rewarding in the long run . also most motherboards can take newer processors and the rest is basically adding if you want
“he first HD or BD titles for the pc will take very long to come.”
divx and quicktime and windows media hd is already here
“Try downloading a 25 gigabyte file for a game:P)”
with broadband speeds increasing alot nowadays then pretty easy
“And another thing I think: 1 standard system makes programmers program better and watch at the FPS for a change. I hate a game that is overhyped onthe pc, and then has ridiculous system reqs due to sneaky marketing.”
that is soooo true . although most the time you run it on a lower rated pc it runs fine .. strange that.
and on that note
just to be random ..
i loved the dreamcast muracas they was funny
October 14th, 2006 at 2:17 pm
Dunno about the increas of speed man. The internet doesnt increase as fast as the size of programmes do in my opinion. I got like a 100 mbit university line at the moment, but it would still take me days to download just 1 game in BD format. I think it would take at least 5 years to make such things fast enough to download BD titles within an acceptable marge.
And a lot of people (the average consumer) have no clue how to build a budget pc. My pc is 2,5 years old and I only spent 1000 euros on it in total, it still works great (ok ok oblivion was kinda shoddy, but it went okay in 800*600:P.. game sucked anyway due to fucked up xbox port:(). However, My ps2 still cost me less money in toto and I got that thing for 5 years now, I think. And when you assume you buy all your pc titles, you are waaaaaay cheaper with the consoles.
anyway I’m drifting off again. The point is, yes, the pc is cheaper for you and me, since we have the means of procuring a budget pc and being able to play games on it. But most people got a dell POS anyway. The majority of people prefer a cheaper and easier system then the pc for games. Why do you think most of the developers concentrate on the consoles? There is more money there. The piracy on the pc games is very very high, and on consoles very low (in comparisson).
Yeah you are right about the high def on pc, but still. you wont see the next pc games growing outside of that 6 gb window the next years, because the devs dont wanna risk putting it out on a new medium. Which is bad in my opinion. The diversity of systems like in the pc market creates loss of implementation of new systems in cases like this.
October 14th, 2006 at 4:29 pm
good point
but with a pc your only spending money on that and it already can play hd content
but what i mean why its better than the console for it is because you would have to spend if not the equal amount or evenmore to even use hd content on ps3 and others cause you still need to buy a hdtv as well to play it on , well for most people anyways
but the good implenmention of having hd and non hd sockets on a ps3 i see no reson why not just using it on a normal tv , for the time being .
so basically m point of saying that is
pc can do hd as soon as you buy its setup but ps3 can do hd as soon as you get the setup .. plus the hdtv
and as for the broadband statement
it wouldnt matter anyways if you did have the really fast net .. because the fact of you would need a bluray writer to burn it on lol
conclusion .. we are both right
lol
October 14th, 2006 at 5:54 pm
Aaah, no I want really referring about the hd-tv part, I was just referring to the massive storage capacity. I really don’t care for hd:P Yes the pc has higher resolutions already. I’m aware of that;)
October 15th, 2006 at 12:11 am
lol fair enough .. now if the console was able to make beer on the spot i would love it
