According to a survey of retailers, the Nintendo Wii is going to outsell the PS3 by a rather large margin. The poll, done by Japanese Enterbrain, shows that almost 9 out of 10 retailers think that the Wii will outsell the PS3 this holiday season. The results were:
Which new console will sell better this holiday season?
Wii: 88%
PS3: 12%
Including all hardware, which system will generate the most sales?
Nintendo DS: 60,7%
Nintendo Wii: 32.8%
PS2: 3.3%
PS3: 1.6%
Xbox360: 1.6%
Of course, what they “expect” doesn’t mean they’ll actually be selling at those rates, but it gives a good indication among the retailers, since their word is probably better than those of “the market analysts”.
However, the survey doesn’t mention the reason retailers expect the Wii to outsell the PS3, it could be based on the number of pre-orders on each console, or just general “hype” surrounding them at the moment.

I assume the answer is PS3 Doom. But why do you think it will outsell the Wii? The Wii is much more appealing to an average consumer. Nongamers will have some easy-to-pick-up titles like wii-sports, and presumably Rayman and “the brain” game, dont remember the exact title. The Nintendo fans will have Zelda, and following the most promising Mario game since Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy. The more “hardcore” gamer can play Red Steel, assuming it can live up to the hype. And the price speaks for itself.
The PS3 follows the trend of the PSP. A expencive machine with lots of power. Though the PSP has far more impressive graphics, it’s no competition to the DS. Why do you think it wont be the same with the PS3 vs the Wii? Besides, this time Nintendo have all the good press. When PSP and DS was to be released, Sony got all the positive press, and the DS was doomed before it was ever released, and the DS won the generation anyway. Please answer the questions in a logic manner.

Very correct: the ps1/ps2 where the most popular, that is a statistical fact, backed up by a few tens of millions each. The innovatity is besides being opinion based, not a very liable thing to say: since you are a. a fanboy, b. many people will disagree.

33I’m gonna have 2 agree with some of the things Doom said. Nintendo does depend on some of their old franchises alot. We have been playing some of the same things for over 25 years now. Nintendo systems does not mean innovating games. The PS2 is home to a lot of original games like Okami, Shadow Of Collesus, ICO, Pshyconauts and a lot more. Those games 2 me are a lot ore original then games Nintendo has made for the last ten years.

35Japanese developers from all the top publishers said the same in this week’s Famitsu. All said they are more excited by Wii, want to develop for it more and think it will sell better.
Here is what I think will happen
Launch period - Wii will sell more at Christmas due to price and supply, PS3 will then overtake as all the spotty 15 year olds use the £450 they have saved from their paper rounds to buy a PS3 and it might overtake on numbers.
Post launch - PS3 will hit a plateau where all the gamers have it and it has to appeal to the mass market. (Anyone with any knowledge of the game’s industry knows this is how PS2 was successful, Sony made it a brand name and got people who didn’t know about gaming buying it.) So Sony will do one of two things.
1. Dramatically cut prices so that people who don’t play a lot of games will consider it. (Face it a casual gamer doesn’t read games mags, doesn’t care if PS3 has 35,000 squigabits of power and does not want to spend nearly 500 quid on something they hardly use)
2. Keep prices high and watch their sales totally dry up ala PSP
