GameCube Games Region Locked On Wii
October 4th, 2006 by Tobias Dahl in Business, Driving, GameCube, Gear, Multiplayer, RPG, Simulation, Software, Sports, Wii
Nintendo UK has confirmed that the Wii region locking feature will extend to GameCube games, meaning that you won’t be able to play old imported GameCube games on the Wii.
Furthermore, Nintendo said that Virtual Console games will “not be universal”; there will be US, European and Japanese version of old NES, SNES and N64 games available for download. From the console launch, there will be around 10 new Virtual Console titles available every month.

Nintendo are really starting to piss me off with their regioin locking. Region locking GameCube games is the last straw. As soon as there’s a mod chip available for this I’ll be using it.

Since it’s almost the same hardware, or type of harware, I think only minor tweaks are required to existing mod chips in order to use them for the Wii

Wow. that’s gotta suck!! I guess no console is perfect.

But that just it, if they get rid of region locking it would really work in the consoles favour, I don’t understand why the whould do this after the success of the region free DS.

Another minus for the gimmick wii.
and the price its still 250$
Huge Rip-off !!!!!!!!!
October 5th, 2006 at 4:58 am
That doesn’t effect me. I’m still getting a Wii after the 360 of course. PS3 after DMC4 and a bunch of other good games(and a price drop).

Price control, they charge more in the world where they deem fit. If you see it in a cheap ass part of the world, import it then it wont work… this is old Sony/Nintendo business practice…

I cant see how it should make such a big difference. I never import games anyway, nor does the majority of casual gamers

Shaka: “Another minus for the gimmick wii.

right so motion sensing is a gimmick? a gimmick that sony stole and implemented terribley.
and 250 a ripoff. Like $600 for a console isn’t a ripoff.
Shaka ur still a fanboi idiot.
:::waits for price drop Wii60 FTW!!:::

More bile spewed from those that couldn’t put together a plausable argument if their lives depended on it.
Trying to pass off opinions as facts? Come now. That’s the lowest of the low.
Then again, you guys ARE Doom and Shaka.

”Trying to pass off opinions as facts? Come now. That’s the lowest of the low.

You have no right for stating an accusation like that for you are a notorious Nintendo fanboy and are therefore out of touch with normal logic and reasoning.
Unless someone qualified in the field of normality adresses me at my statement, the aforementioned item remains intact and onscolded.
for the late readers it was:
”be glad, all the gc games sucked hard anyway ”
Anyone besides Emerald may adress me on this statement since it’s open for debate* **
* ** zac and ruined are also excluded due to the same reasons.

“You have no right for stating an accusation like that for you are a notorious Nintendo fanboy and are therefore out of touch with normal logic and reasoning.”
Yes, because my preferance for both the Xbox 360 and the Wii makes me a Nintendo fanboy. Way to make your arguments evern more crappy then they were before.
“Unless someone qualified in the field of normality adresses me at my statement, the aforementioned item remains intact and onscolded.”
So you conception of normal is based upon you? Guess only you and Shaka are normal, then. Because as I’ve said, you just used a Sony Fanboy tactic- Ignorance ignorance ignorance.
Your so called claim is nothing more than fanboy drivel, and should be regarded as such.
“Anyone besides Emerald may adress me on this statement since it’s open for debate* **”
That’s like saying Democrats can’t debate Republicans on issues because they have differing views.
So using your logic I’ll exclude you and Shaka from responding to my posts for the exact same reasoning.
Do you even read what drivel you type, doom?

Mod Chip Kthx. All other companies’ systems have region locking, what a stupid idea, but for some reason they have it. It’s not like Nintendo was the first/only one to do it. Get used to it it’s called a controlled environment.
