No PSP Price Cuts This Year
October 8th, 2006 by Darren Stevens in Business
Sony has denied all rumors that the PSP might be getting a price cut this year, saying “We’ve got no plans to cut the price of PSP at this moment in time,”. The PSP has been severely trailing behind Nintendo’s DS Lite the past 6 months; a price cut could certainly improve the sales of the console. Until a cheaper manufacturing process is available, it looks like the PSP price will stay the same.
Currently the PSP sells at $199 (compared to the DS Lite’s $129 price tag), with a recently introduced bundle available for $249 (including a UMD movie, a game, and a 1GB Memory Stick. Instead of a price cut, Sony is trying to make consumers understand the value of the PSP, having the ability to play games, music, movies, and browse the Internet.
