Images Of EA’s Skate Appear

Scans of The Official PlayStation Magazine reveal the first images and screenshots of EA’s upcoming skateboarding game, Skate. The images are from the PS3 version, and they certainly look better than any Tony Hawk game we’ve seen. Of course, pretty visuals don’t equal good and fun gameplay. We’ll have to see when it comes out sometime in 2007. More scans after the break.

(Sigh) Do any of you players of the Tony Hawk franchise even know anything about skateboarding? If you did maybe you’d appreciate EA’s attempt at making a realistic skateboarding experience. Tony Hawk is definitely fun, but focuses mainly on points and not the essence of skateboarding in general. In “Skate”, you will actually experience skateboarding without being able to ollie people and land everything possible. The least you can do is give it a chance and skate as the real pros.

thps is for those who enjoy cheap combo fun and rail accelleration and the awesome “physics” and “star power” of the pros. A game made by those who find skateboarding to boring and not hyperactive enough to emulate. I’m sure most people found Thrasher Skate and Destroy too slow and real to enjoy. Activision finally discovered motion capture. I’ve played a demo of thps project 8 on the 360 and it has the same look with better graphics frictionless rails and awesome star power that made the series a hit with the kids and those who find realism boring.

This game is going to be way better than any of the tony hawk games but i have to give tony hawks their props becuase the last game was better than them all as far as super grind powerline combos its still super fake but getting better remebr on T.H.U.G. 1 to beat the game you had to grind taht gay ass ungodly line. I liked the Tony hawk games and I play them lots of times…but OMG I have to minimize all the stats, take out the balance meters and the stpid game keeps unrealistic! If this game is not going to be a disapointment like Tony hawk was, I am surelly going to buy the ps3 just to have fun whit it! Anyway, I am going to buy Tony hawks because I love to play the story… Danny Way, Pj Ladd, Chris Haslam, Chris Cole and Rob Dyrdek…hope they put Geoff Rowley, Andrew Reynolds, Eric Koston, Salabanzi, Arto Saari, Mark Appleyard and Billy Marks in it(probably none of theese…)!

You guys should check out the gameplay footy. type “EA skate” at http://www.youtube.com and you’ll get Rob Dyrdek playing, and the game filmed.It’s unbelievably fluid and realistic.I just hope Josh Kalis is in it.

the only thing this game has on project 8 is the physics, grinds, lack of gayness, and the fact that every time you do a trick it will look different and you have to “nail the trick” every time, this includes the ollies, oh and tony hawks not in it. And if you happen to skate in HD (real life) can you link a 30ft grind with multi flip combos awesome spins grabs and manuels to ramp to revert. no but you might be able to land a kickflip tailslide shuv-it out. fornication not involved, unless its just you and the hand…rail.

Y the fuck are all u guys spazzin out over another skate game. Tony hawk if your in the mood can be a really fun experience. But i skate so i do like full cab flips, laser flips, inward heelflips and it doesnt give you squat points. I wish there wasnt a point system. i aim for reallistic tricks not 1080+quad kickflip+triple heelflip+double backflip.

EA has lots of good games, but some times the games are short like BLACK

Whats with people saying there is nothing wrong with Tony Hawk? Yes there is. Tony Hawk games suck. Why would there be a ramp in the middle of a highway? Why can you grind on telephone wires? Tony Hawk games have gone farther and farther off the scale of realism with the release of every continuous game. Somebody needs to slap activision for turning skateboarding into the teen comic strip its become and get back to the basics. Back to what made Tony Hawk such a good game in the first place. Its great that EA is stepping up. What I want is a game thats so hard and realistic I have trouble tre flipping off a curb, I want a game that gets your adrenalin rushing because there is a 15 stair set infront of you with a perfect run way but you only have 2 hours before the security guards make their rounds. I want a skateboarding game.

I live in michigan and when i got a fractured heel, i dont have a warm winter to look to and skate when im heeled up like all of those damn cali kids. If your a real skater you know the power it holds on you. its not a f**king hobbie its your god damn life. so to keep me sane i played with a tech deck, watch vids, or played THPS to keep sane. but i had to lower the stats and turn sim mode on. Now that EA is bring Skate to the market i(no wait). All skateboarders like me have something to look forward to when were injured. Believe it or not but skate games have a very possitive move on the industry if you kno how to use it. I used my imagination and thought up new tricks that i havent done yet with THPS and learned them quicker than i would of. And since Skate is coming out i have something better to use, to learn, and to thank.

Tony Hawk’s games were lame after THPS2. That game there was at least a trueism SIM mode you could turn on. I was told the other games had this mode, but it was way different than thps2. Free skate mode with sim mode one, some ser sessions on rails and whatnot. Skate looks groovy . XBox 360 will kill PS3. AMPed series games plus SKATE will def make my mind up.

Skating is brilliant, though ive not been out in ages for a skate, i love it… Thrasher was totally on point how it depicted skating, like you actually got pure excited and shit when you nailed a sick gap, and there was always stuff on every level that you would just notice one day and try, but you wouldnt get it first time, maybe not even second, so you kept trying, just like real life, i gave up on THPS after the second one, theres nothing in those games except arcade crap, hell my girlfriend can play Tony hawks games…. but give her thrasher and its like a fish outta water….
Games about skatin should reflect the true skill involved, and not be about just mashin buttons as fast as you can to cram as many flips into one jump as you can…..

the sickest part about this game is that like local skaters from around were i live are gonna be in it like pj ryan gallant and dave bazinski(who kickflip el toro)every one from around here look up to those guys. Tony Hawk is to real skating what Blitz Arena is to real football. It’s very clearly not a simulation, but more of an arcade representation of skateboarding. I have the new Tony Hawk Downhill Jam for the Wii, and while it’s incredibly unrealistic, it’s also really fun. I do wish that EA would release this game for something other than the PS3 so that I actually have a chance to check it out and enjoy some realistic skating at 2am in February (yes, I actually skate, but bad asphalt + no lighting + 15 degree weather makes wipes extra painful and extra likely). Tony Hawk has its place, but a realistic option has been sorely lacking for a long time.

Wow, I thought I was the only one who loved Thrasher Skate and Destroy. That game was sick. I got rid of my old PS1 for an XBox and miss that old game. It was cool since you actually had to push, and the friction on the rails and curbs was cool, and how you had to balance and everything. This game SKATE is already sick if it has those same fun aspects. I have skated for over a decade now and the more real the game, the more fun. Tony Hawk’s is over the top for me.

I have every single Tony Hawk except project 8. Its a disgrace what Neversoft has done to the series after 3.
Every new game that they bring out focus’s on combos. Even Project 8. A “next generation game” with shit graphics and collision detection. Ive been skating for 5 years. I dont care if you done believe me. I think what EA are doing looks very promising. Remember “Thrasher skate and Destroy” (ps1) Thats been the closest thing to skateboarding so far on a computer.

thps games are fun, if u let them be fun, but its much less realistic etc. skate will be alot more realistic. it will include a bigger learning curve but landing a baisc trick will actaully be satisfying

Skateboarding games provide EVERYONE the chance to skateboard. Not everyone has the willpower to start skating and keep on. For those who do skateboard, you will apreciate what Tony Hawk has done to the industry. I for one started skating when THPS was first realeased. Skateboarding is the best feeling in the world and not everyone will experience it.

the xbox 360 is clearly superior to the new PS3 and nintendo wii. both of those systems lack jus so much tthat add to the gaming experience that i so truly desire. for example the motherboard on the 360 holds up to 30gb!!!!! thats so much!!! the ps3’s motherboard mainframe is only a b class computer chip that reacts in coherence with a class chips that are truly superior in ever single way!! the wireliess of the ps3 is bad because of the 30 point laser that it uses to propally connect with the port based on the core mother chip of hte controller…. so everyone noes that the 360 is the best system for the advanced gamers who need the best the of the best… does anyone know about hte second ending to starwars battlefront 2? its truly mesmorizing i got hter by having hte best scores…

In order for this game to completely sell me, EA needs to put a really deep board set-up aspect into the game. Remember in the first Tony Hawk game when you could select if you wanted loose or tight trucks, which would affect your skater’s turning abilities the way you wanted it to? This feature was taken out in all the games afterwards, probably due to non-skaters being turned off by that. Well if this is going to a game for the hardcore skaters, EA needs to push it to the smallest details. Aside from the basics like selecting your truck brand and size, I want the ability to tighten or loosen them to varying degrees the way you want it. I want a selection of different wheel brands and sizes, different griptape brands and exactly how you want it cut maybe different bearing brands and types, to pick from hard or soft bushings, to even pick the color of your hardware. I want an experience like walking into a skateshop and picking out the parts you want, then putting it all together. I want all these parts to truly affect how you skate, like in real life. You buy the cheap-ass ABEC 3 rated bearings for eight bucks in the game, the way your in-game board skates with them reflects that.

So yeah. We always slate EA because they’re un-imaginitive, bland and they just pump out the same old crap. but then again, they have produced games such as SSX, Medal of Honour and what about The Sims? People always seem to forget that EA are (for all their shite) a good games company. They’re good at what they do. They have potential. If they just stopped pumping out the same titles like FIFA, Madden etc over and over again, they might actually gain some respect in the gaming community.
This Skate game seems to have mixed opinions. Certainly, the Tony Hawk series has dominated the skating game market for the past seven or so years now. It’s time for a change. I mean, if there’s no competition in the market, then Activision are gonna get lazy and revert back to the days of THAW… We don’t want that, now do we?
I think it’s great that EA have come along and made such a realistic game to portray a real perspective of Skating. Grinding a rail is hard. The Ollie takes weeks, in some cases months to master. The only other game that has really portrayed real life skating was Thrasher. Ever since then it’s been Tony Hawk, Tony Hawk, Tony Hawk and I, for one, am starting to get annoyed.
Although THP8 is a fantastic looking game, we were promised total control of the board, real world physics and all the rest of it. I went out and bought it and was severely dissapointed. Sure, it looked pretty, but when I played it I can still land a 1080 out of a quarter pipe no problem. It’s just too un-realistic for me. I’m bored of it now. The same old challenges, the same old high scores, collect the secret tape, collect the combo letters.
I hope EA wipe the floor with Activision. the game’s still to be properly demo’d and it’s probably still in the prelim stages which is why there really aren’t any real in game trailers yet.
I have every faith in this game. It’s gonna take extreme sports games to a new level of realism and enjoyment. And when you’re done making a nollie-flip noseslide down a 8 star rail look good in SKATE, you can always pop THP8 in and pull of a 1,000,000 point combo…

Shit it took me more than a year to ollie on a curb. but i think since i stuck with it for that long with no learning i was quickly blessed with progresion. im living prof of practice makes perfect or at least better. If you stick with anything and bite the shit, youll pull out in the long run.
Madden isnt a bad game, i like to play it even though i f*ckin hate jocks, jocks are the new nerds and skateboarders are now the new jocks. If you can skateboard you can take the Football team captain’s pussy away anyday. Truth. but its not a bad game but just lacks inavativeness. Theres not too much you can do to those kind of games except graphics. but you dont have to buy them every year. i got 2003 and im totally kool with it.
Skate will feel the same as watchin a skate vid. Ill be stoked on every flip and grind i land. just like i do watchin appleyard’s nasty hardflip 5-0’s or rowley blastin down a drainage ditch. Its going to help bring the true side of our love to the mainstream and let ignerant bitch’s kno that we cant backflip on flat, finally i might stop gettin asked to do a ho ho plant impossible. no seriously, ive been asked that. its f*ckin rediculous.

1) The controller. The PS controller design is perfect. I don’t like the Xbox 360’s controller.
2) I want Assassin’s Creed and MGS4.
I already have Blu Ray, so I don’t need that. The 360 looks increasingly more appealing as time goes on.
And besides, there’s nothing on the PS3 just yet that gives me the same satisfaction as chainsawing my way through Gears of War…

Dude, if you knew anything about skating what-so-ever, you would know that this game wins hands down. The realism of this game is unmatched by any. I am a fan of tony hawk games, hell i even bought THP8, but the game just isn’t real. Activision just made everything too skatable, whens the last time you saw a dude grinding an overhead powerline? In EA’s SKATE no 2 tricks are the same, and there’s no game like this.

Too bad Xbox 360 in specs is not only the same but faster in Ram/quicker graphics card. Guess what Xbox 360 is coming out with a 160gb Hard drive. So this is the reason why Xbox will always be much better

5. Supposely 360 is already gonna have a new system producing this year that has a way better graphics card for 1080p, hdmi inputs, way more storage (160gb), way quicker loading, xbox live market place is gonna be 5x bigger downloading videos/tv shows and much more.
I am not a microsoft fan when it comes to computers because im a mac guy but PS3 is already doomed. I saw a sales chart compared to Xbox 360 last year and PS3 this year Xbox did a lot better in selling and there still selling systems. Ok let me make my point also. Screw Tony hawk series EA is soo much more competitive in the sports/gaming community. There gonna put a lotta work in this game my friend is a beta tester and he told me he played a rendered version of some of S.k.a.t.e and said the game play is amazing, also said its a lot more harder then Tony hawk. I’ve played Tony Hawks Project 8…..i thought this was gunna be “GOOD” skateboarding game. Cpmpared to Skate tony hawks either has to pull a miricle out his ass or give up cuz skate gunna rule. I even looked at X-Plays review for the game on PS3 3 out of 5. i think they gave it too much credit. the graphics and the nail the trick(which does get boring after a while)in my opinion are the only thing that’s really changed that you can notice at first glance. overall id give it a 2 out of 5. I got a 360 and Skate is one of my many games im gonna buy this year.

It’s about bloody time Activision got some half-assed competition, even if it is from the EA juggernaut. Competition’ll make both games improve, like FIFA and Pro Evo. Tony Hawk’s been too arcadey for too long and people who skateboard for real’ll know that it’s just Jackass: The Game, endorsed by Tony instead of Bam, because they know that Tony for real’s passed his sell-by date, and these things are getting too kiddie-like instead of being aimed at the REAL DEAL. I saw a screen shot of Skate’s World. Its basically one world cramed with all the spots we all love and skate. dont worry its not small, kinda like THAW did it. i hope theres no loadin in between shit though. o yea and i finally played the ps3 Resistints Fall of Man. It sucked bad, was not impressed at all. its graphics looked almost the same as Black on the ps2. yea a little extra small detail is put in but overall it wasnt what the hipe was all about, if thats the only major game holdin the ps3 on the line then they better pull a damn miracle out there asses and get to work. whatever give it a year, but that game pretty much ruined it for me. i guess if you dont want to be disapointed then you should just go the PC route. And im glad that pros who deserve to get a video game are in this.

the new 360 will be a all black 120gb drive with a couple extra features, but thats only for the australia release. who knows if its comin to the US, and if it is i hope theres a couple extra gb on it. Skate is comin out in november but i bet they’ll hold it till the holiday. thrasher was made for the ps1 so i dont think you’ll be able to get it for the 360.

thps games have never been solid. Wait, wait they have been solid, solid waste! activision was never comp in the skate genre because it was owned since 1999-00 when Rockstar made Thrasher: Skate and Destroy. Dudes, it does not mean that having pros in the game will make it bearable. do you remember cyrus he was not real.

people liked thps because the people looked real and were real life skaters. that’s not a good benchmark for a good game. S.K.A.T.E. will be good because of the physics engine all the mo-cap and the realistic habitat. that alone will make it good. all the rest are just bonus’s

Also, the characters in this game are good unlike the last one with ryan shecklar and Bam. DEM mad gay. Jerry Hsu, pj ladd, and Chris Cole.

This is an awesome interview with one of the developers, he gives out a lot of info and you can see the gameplay in the back the whole time.
The physics when they hit the rails and fall over it are awesome, and I love the idea of using the buttons for different limbs.

EA games suck!
They know what people want and they make the games but they make so many games that they spend little time and even less effort making them, so when you finally get that game home that you, oh so wanted because of the hype, you put it in your console, and oh!

Its now on a new format The graphics have changed slightly, if at all, but it feels just like the game you bought last month.

The PS3 has everything included in one package that the X box has separate!
It says it all when Microsoft had to bring out a second console not even a year after it released the 360.
I have a ps3 and its money well spent trust me it has a lot of hidden talents!

i can still butterslide in the courthouse on thrasher skate or die, im prob the only one who knos that glitch and i can butter slide the entire pool at the do not enter sign in the courthouse, fuck tony hawk they suck..the game isnt real and nuttin can compare to fs flippin down 6, maybe skate has some raw stuff but even then go out lose weight and go SKATE peace
