Gears Of War Shipping With 10 Multplayer Maps

Epic’s futuristic horror-shooter Gears of War is only a month away from launch, and is the biggest Xbox360 title this holiday season. While the game has some solid single-player action, the multiplayer part is also something developer Epic is focusing on; instead of originally 8 versus maps, there will be 10 shipping with the game on November 12. Lead designer CliffyB announced it on the official Epic forums, saying “Turns out we ARE shipping with 10 versus maps. (We were saying 8 to be on the safe side.)”

What are you folks complaining about now? 10 is a great start and more than the 8 they had announced. Of course they will roll out map packs and since it is coming from Epic you can bet their content will be free. This game is going to win GOTY award so stop looking for things to complain about or reasons to whine.
Of course this game is going to be the biggest game title this Holiday Season … with COD3 close on it’s heels (it may overtake it actually … there seems to be a lot of people still waaay into playing WWII games and there is a new WWII movie coming around the same time).
Actually I still think that the the 360 2nd gen titles are going to wind up getting the most positive press in the gaming biz this holiday season. Yep even more so than the Wii (which should be right on its heels) … over the entire Holiday season.

Yeah I hated PD0 as well … it was the first 360 game I traded in … I couldn’t even bring myself to finish it.

Yeah every new console has that game with so much potential and hype that fails miserably. I think this game for the Wii would be Red Steel. I forgot about the downloading service on X-box live.
I don’t know Marquee its probably me but I just got this feeling that it will be a good game but its not going to be the killer game Epic sayz it will be. My friend downloaded the demo and said it was nutting special. Said it was almost like RE4. Maybe thats where I get my doubt but its just one opinion. I gotta go and try the demo out for myself.

Yeah high-expectations always “ruin” games.
Remember Halo 2 was hyped up a heap, then a lot of people saw it as a letdown.
Same with movies, The Matrix had huge expectations, and people were let down by the 3rd (maybe 2nd too) film because they were expecting too much. Had it not been a Matrix film, people may have liked it more, if you get my drift.

You have no clue what you are talking about do you? Stop being so upset that the PS/3 doesn’t have a title nearly as fantastic as this one. This is the first true next gen game … what game is going to compare to this on the PS/3? certainly not RFoM.
This title was delayed almost a year so they could work out all the kinks. This is going to be a very good game. Anyway what more is there to talk about … everyone will see for themselves in less than a month. This game kicks RE4’s ass from a visual standpoint and the gameplay just can’t be confused with that game. I really don’t understand you except that don’t like to face the facts when it comes to games on platforms other than the Sony brand.

Whatever … you are wrong and just about everyone else around here knows it. None of what you said is true … there is no CGI … Epic doesn’t use that … they use the engine for cinamatech cut scenes … do some research and get your facts straight before you go spouting off nonsense.
Emergence day has been planned to be this Holiday season long before Sony finalized on a release date. And anyway it won’t take much for people to gloss over that overpriced piece of technology … the launch titles are just nothing that special.

But why would you care anyway since Gears of Wars is “over-rated” and is “not a real game” according to you. And yes Epic is a third partie but for Gears they entered into a special arrangement with MS but at any rate while it will probably find it’s way onto the Vista/DX10 gaming platform at some point in the future you won’t see it on the PS/3.

Also Oblivion is a very poor comparison. Remember it’s not just the game and technical issues you have to consider, it’s about the marketing … MS never have huge events based around that game (or any other … maybe PGR3 in some ways) unlike Gears … MS is really showing this off and putting in lots of bucks marketing it.
Now if this title were going to end up on the PS/3 anytime in the forseeable future you can bet MS would not be dolling out all that cash. This is the new flagship game for them and they are not about to let it go to any non MS platform.

OH PLEASE!! R:FoM is nowhere and I repeat NOWHERE near as good looking as Gears and introduces to new gameplay elements so get a clue. Anyway who cares what any of you SONY FANBOYS say … you all secretly crave Gears anyway … Emergence Day is a mere 19 days away!
So yeah go ahead and be happy with your PS/3 and it’s games and believe me when I say that all of us 360 owners will be playing Gears and loving how it’s going to win GOTY and easily garner way better reviews than any game that will be out on the PS/3 this holiday season. In short we [Gears players] don’t care about your R:FoM. Really tbh not too many places seem all that excited about it compared to Gears. Oh yeah and I don’t recall R:FoM beating Gears at any Gaming Events where both were shown.

Just so most people know this, it’s the online Multiplayer most people care about and no matter how anyone tries and spin it R:FoM just can’t match the artistic might of Gears. Again I’m not the only person who thinks that … plenty of gaming analysts also know this fact (”Oh yeah and I don’t recall R:FoM beating Gears at any Gaming Events where both were shown.”). Better try using Killzone as an stronger example … oops you can’t since there are NO pics or anything …

Well being a Sony fanboi would yield u in not knowing how many hours all shooters go for. u see shooters have always been 7-14 hours long plus a limitless online multi-player platform. Hey shaka u ever heard of speed runs?? look them up u can finish Half life 2 in less than hour.

Stefanten … I’d like to throw Alan Wake into that mix if I may. Also aren’t the people behind the only PPU card on the market making their demo a full fledged game? That might be a really great looking game as well. UT2K7 is much much more than just a polished UT2K4 … take it from a modder on the UE2 platform. Once it arrives people will really be amazed at how great that game is. There is even going to be a decent SP campaign to it although we all know that the major focus continues to be on Online multiplayer action. Also the bot AI is even better than ever so playing on God mode is going to be extremely hard. Probably the Number one title on the PC for me in all of 2007 … because I can’t wait to do some cool weapon and vehicle mods. Maybe even resume work on HaloUT.

Okay I just saw the latest footage of R:FoM and I admit that it looks really good … in fact for me this is actually closer to the type of FPS I like. Don’t get me wrong Gears is why I got a 360 but man the framerates on R:FoM when a lot is going on are very good, and the effects are sweet.
Still though I say the texture work and detail present with Gears is above Resistance, its the other things like AI, how solid the controls feel and gameplay mechanics that are going to determine which one I personally prefer. At this point it’s still Gears based on what I seen but when I eventually get a PS/3 for GOW3 this will definitely be a title I get. It will be very interesting to see the finished product vs. Gears and tbh as an avid FPS gamer who will eventually own all three consoles the more good FPS games the better.

Well again I may be in for a shock … Here is the most recent Gears footage and it looks great, though I am suspect about fps. Also this game looks hard … harder than I thought. When they said cover is everything they weren’t kidding. I’m wondering if there is too much emphasis on cover though for a game of this type. I would like to be able to get up and personal more often and really go balls out at least some times but there doesn’t look to be a place for that at all in this game.
