xbox360 factoryIt’s a common thing for console makers to lose money in the beginning, and profit from it after a few years on the market. Microsoft is no exception, their game division lost over $1.2 billion on Xbox and Xbox360 to date, and are still losing money on every Xbox360 console sold. Despite the losses, Microsoft isn’t giving up on the Xbox360, as company COO Kevin Turner says,

“This is a company that is committed to sticking to things that we believe in. Certainly, this is a space (Xbox360) we believe in.

  1. GameGod Says:

Get your facts straight, MS lost more than 4 billion $ with the XBox…

  2. Jim2k Says:

I think it’s “production related” losses they mention, the cost of selling + the expense of making the console = 1.2 billion loss.

4 billion might be including marketing etc. Plus develpment costs of both consoles (billions)

  3. Doom Says:

U guys forget that MS will sell way more games then the crappy Wii. So basically they get a lot more money in total (just like the last time). People with a wii are dependant from their grandparents due to their age and the Wii ofcourse wont last as long as the other consoles cuz of the crappy hardware in it.

More like a gimmick, it iwll sell maybe for 12 months, and then it is doomed.

  4. tavla Says:

    its cool..

  5. Lemond Says:

I don’t see this as an effective strategy. If I recall correctly, MS never made back the losses from the original Xbox, and seems to be going down the same path with the 360.

It is becoming increasingly obvious that the Xbox brand was never intended to make money.

  6. The Wicker Man Says:

well, the 360 is the best next gen gaming system. Im a pc gamer, but the 360 rocks. So does the ps3 and I guess the wii. I feel the wii is garbage, a decent system but no games to back it up.

Now, we have atleast 110 promosing games coming to the 360.

Halo 3 ( 7-8 million easy ) this one game will make atleast 3-5 billion… this 1 game alone will get them out of debt.

crysis (5-8 million easy ) this will come out on the 360, I can tell how the guy is talking.

    UT3 ( 3-4 million ) I see this selling well

Gears of war (2-4 million) it sold 3 million, but I see xbox 360 selling a good uhmm 3-4 consoles this holiday season. With the price drop.
