Capcom has closed the studio behind titles including Viewful Joe, and the recently released Okami and God Hand. Capcom told 1UP that the developer’s games haven’t been received well among gamers, even though some of them were critically acclaimed titles like Okami, released earlier this month.
Capcom calls their approach “inefficient”, but it seems that it’s more inefficient marketing than game development. The closure will be finalized at the end March 2007.

1This doesn’t make any sense, Okami has received top scores across many sites, and is reportedly selling well.

2And God Hand is getting good reviews as a Brawler … this just goes to prove that all the big boys are looking to get leaner and make more cash. Well too bad but hopefully this means that future games from Capcom will be even better. I guess this means no God Hand 2 or Okami 2 for that matter.

3Oh I’m sure there will be Okami 2, it will be produced by an outsorced studio from India who received their first PS2 dev kit a week before the game is supposed to launch

5This is a damn shame! We gamers really need to make sure that unique good games that Clover Studios make become successful or we will be playing the same things over and over again.

8Viewful Joe had NO gamplay? John Frew did U even play Clover Studios games? The gaming industry needs studios like Clover. Just 2 add unique compelling titles.

11I’m sure you will see the influences from this studio from one of the other 8 studio’s they get into in capcom.

13Unbelievable… I JUST finish Okami today, and it was one of the most amazing games I’ve ever played. My son and I were just saying how we hope there will be a sequel to the game, so I do a search on Okami 2 and come across this.
Darn shame… guess money talks, eh?

16this makes me really upset. I’ve become so addicted with Okami. I beat it Idk how many times and I keep watching the last video where she’s fighting the “demonized” panther and elk and I just keep thinking to myself ” Is that a sneek preview to Okami 2? This was a awesome game, so much better than Kingdom Hearts and wasn’t over priced like KH2 is. I really wish they make a sequel.

18OMG they should make an Okami 2! On the first one they left it at a cliff hanger, duh! C’mon, and plus I saw on the extra videos you get when you defeat the game, a preview of what seems to be an Okami 2. Plus, one of the transformations you get after you defeat the game shows what I believe to be the new version of Amaterasu(sp?) in a hope to be sequel to Okami. Btw, the title from the video I saw on the extras said: Ohkami. So I dunno. I really really hope there will be a sequel, to which they again lft us at a cliff hanger. They have to.

19Btw, adding to what I said, I don’t think it should be for the Wii. How would you make it match to the controller? Would you play the game run on all fours? I wouldn’t. I think they should make it for the PS2 again, it worked perfectly fine on it before. That’ll be all for now, no more comments from me (for now).

20I hope they make it for ps2 if capcom makes a new one. And to Greenthumb, why would a playstation game go and change to nitendo? I think that by the time it comes out it will be a PS3 game. I really didn’t want to buy tht system. it costs too much

21Holy shit America just because you dont like games that involve stunning art work and amazing stories you have to throw it away. Okami was one of the few greatest ps2 games there where and for if they are worrying about money then the smartest thing to do is make Okami 2.

22I really hope there will be an Okami 2. Plus VJ was a good game as well. It’s a damn shame they would do that to Clover. I mean they had such good reviews for God Hand, Okami, and VJ. Those were some of the top selling games. Hopefully Capcom could make a sequel or as the guy at the top said, India could make one…
Indeed a sad day in gaming history…
