Game Sales Rocket In September
According to NDP Group, overall video game sales have increased by a massive 38% in September, compared to last year. The sales reached a total of $777 million, with the best seller being the Nintendo DS (once gain), selling over 400,000 units for the month of September (US sales alone). The Xbox360 sold 295,000 units, and over 15 software titles sold over 100,000 copies each. Analyst Anita Fraizer from the NDP Group says “There is no doubt in my mind that this will be a record year for the industry”.
The sales are fueled by the handheld battle between the DS and PSP, and with the introduction of two new consoles (PS3, Wii) later this year, it certainly looks like a new record. Previous record is from 2005, at $10.5 billion, and analysts say that this year might reach $13 billion in sales.

Wow … the Nintendo machine keeps on rolling … and MS didn’t do too shabby this last month. Man is December-January ever going to be an interesting time period.

This is good news for the industry itself. I think the end of this year will be the biggest holiday season for video games ever! Look the Wii is gonna explode with sales and Zelda finally out is gonna rock the charts. The PS3 is gonna be sold out with every shipment and Resistence Fall Of Man will be a blockbuster. And who could forget Emergence Day! Gears Of War is gonna be the 360’s golden ace and sell more 360s. The PSP with its great fall line up is going to be a mega seller 2.
The DS is still going to continue to dominate especially with its new colors. Current gen is not dead either. Final Fantasy 12 will dominate the charts with its hype The PS2 ain’t dead yet and still will sell this holiday. There will be alot of happy new and old gamers alike this winter.

Yep … it’s going to a great season for just about every gamer under the sun (PC gamers are even getting Fear: Extraction Point at the end of this month … and I hear that Crysis will ship by the end of the year as well). Too bad God of War 2 couldn’t be ready for the Holidays but I think that Sony doesn’t want to take too much attention away from the PS/3 and it’s launch titles.

No kidding when you consider that all the great titles are in the $50-$60 range (more with tax). OUCH. There are ten games I would like to get (at least considering the multiple platforms; if they ship on time as well) but I’ll probably cut it down to five and hope I get some great Holiday presents.
