A few months ago there was trouble over Dead Rising in Germany, getting into trouble for its excessive violence. Now it appears that Epic’s upcoming horror-shooter, Gears of War, will be banned from the German market.
German USK, responsible for videogame ratings, refused to give the game a rating, despite several submissions from Microsoft. Microsoft and Epic decided not to make a less-violent version for the German market because it would “fundamentally change the gameplay”, resulting in compatibility issues with different versions on Xbox Live.
This is certainly a blow for the German Xbox360 owners, Gears of War is just as anticipated a title in Europe as it is in the US, and Europe’s largest gaming audience will either have to forget about GoW, of import a version from some of the neighboring countries.
[Thanks, Leon]

1That sucks for the German gamers and now I’m really glad I don’t live in Germany. I guess people will just go to Switzerland or France though but what a MAJOR inconvenience. Booooo GUSK.

2Ha, I’m from Germany, and it’s so easy to cross the border into France or Holland and pick up the game, we use the same currency and a bus trip costs you like $10.
If gamers from Germany want GoW, they’ll get it, trust me.

3It started with the ‘zombies’ in carmageddon.
WHAhaha, poor saps in germany, they should have a strong leader type there who should take hold of all power and show those politicians a lesson they WON’T FORGET!
No wait, let’s not:P

4Just order online or do what Jim2k said but it is a shame for Germans not to be able to go to a local shop and buy GoW. What is up with their ratings?

5It just hit me that if Germany isn’t getting this game then they aren’t getting BioShock either which is really a shame as that game looks extremely interesting and creepy. Also Stranglehold will definitely not make its way to Germany. Like I said I’m glad I don’t live there.
