Microsoft Working On Next Xbox
October 19th, 2006 by Darren Stevens in Business
During a video interview with UK game site Kiziko, Microsoft UK boss Chris Lewis said that they’re already working on the next Xbox. The average lifespan of a videogame console is 5 years, and with the Xbox360 being on the market for a year, it seems reasonable for Microsoft to start thinking ahead, as it takes years to develop and manufacture a new console. Lewis says:
“We keep our development cycles very fast and high, that is the nature of the company and how we operate in terms of research and development, and that’s no different than any other part of Microsoft.”
Lewis also mentions that they expect the Xbox360 to last longer than the 4-year lifespan of the original Xbox, by continuously upgrading it with new add-ons, mainly the HD-DVD and the recently announced 100 GB hard drive.

Why did they even need to announce this? As if no one knew that they were going to keep on making better consoles every 4-5 years. Duh. Oh well at least it’s verified that they are indeed in this market for the long long haul.
