Xbox Live Has 4 Million Subscribers
Microsoft has announced that their online gaming service Xbox Live has surpassed the 4 million subscribers mark, a number which Microsoft predicts will reach 6 million before June 2007. The Xbox Live Arcade numbers are just as impressive; over 12 million downloads have been served, with UNO being one of the most popular titles.
A number of other statistics show that 70% of users are downloading content, with over 70 million pieces of content downloaded since the launch of the Xbox360. Most played game on Xbox Live is still Halo 2 closely followed by Call of Duty 2.
While Xbox Live is popular and still the only major online gaming network, it will face fierce competition from Sony and Nintendo; the PS3 online service will be free of charge, while Nintendo’s Virtual Console will have a back catalog of games like no other. But Microsoft isn’t worried, they “openly welcome other console platforms to join us in [the online] space”.

4 million is something like 80% of Xbox360 owners, let’s see if Nintendo and Sony can match that (they probably can, but it’ll take some time to catch up with MS).

[...] Microsoft announced today that Xbox Live has reached its four millioth user, with six million users expected by June 2007. 70 million items have been downloaded in the first 11 months, thanks to over 70% of Xbox 360 consoles being connected to the service. Xbox Live Arcade has seen 12 million games downloaded. That is a serious chunk of market share not being properly accounted for, if you think about it. The most popular game on Live is Halo 2, with Call of Duty 2 catching up. Nine million voice and text messages are sent every week. Since November 2002, 2 billion hours have been logged on the service. (via Major Nelson and Digital Battle) [...]
