Gaming In 1080p

Microsoft blogger Ozymandias tries to explain the real difference between 1080i, 1080p and 720p. For instance, a 1080p resolution has 2,25x as many pixels as a 720p resolution, and you’ll have to spend 55% less time on each pixel when 1920×1080 compared to 1280×720.This is because the level of detail stays the same, while only the amount of pixels increases. He says that most games won’t be able to run 1080p without sacrificing in other areas, like texture details. This could explain why the anticipated PS3 launch title Resistance: Fall of Man will only support 720p.

Most games can’t justify running at higher than 1280×720—it would actually make them look worse because of the compromises they will have to make in other areas.

So a 1080p game probably won’t have any extra details or effects compared to 720p, but will render the same image at a higher resolution. He also mentions that rendering 1080i and 1080p is the same, since both resolutions have the same amount of pixels.

You tell him Jim! I’m so sick of these blind Sony fanboys you refuse to face the truth (the evidence).

So far Sony has yet to announce that any of the major titles people are looking forward to are actually going to run in 1080p. And I mean the launch titles … MUA and R:FoM were both supposed to be in 1080p but look at what’s happened … 720p just like the 360. Maybe one day though but they shouldn’t have been yammering on about it so much until they were sure there games would be 1080p. Imagine if MS has said we will do 720 and then they could only do 480p … it is effectively the same thing. At least MS has been able to do just what they said while Sony has had to scale down.

PROPAGANDA, microsoft is just trying to justify the reason they dont have 1080P.

  4. Gareth Says:

MS *does* have 1080p… coming in the next firmware update.

  5. jose Says:

its fine well see how that “firmware update” gives the white box 1080P. PROPAGANDA…

    Propaganda:
information, ideas, or rumors deliberately spread widely to help or harm a person, group, movement, institution, nation, etc.

Much like Sony’s emotion engine, 3rd place, real wind, real blades of grass, “real HD doesn’t start til we say it does” bullshit that time and time again has you and the other fanboys queuing up for the arse-raping of a lifetime.

So who’s shit are you going to eat when this update does indeed enable 1080p display? MS may be a lot of things, but everything they’ve promised with their consoles they’ve delivered.

I’m still waiting for the shit Sony promised in the PSone days.

the same shit that will happen when the choice that we all make will be the expensive machine promised nov 17th. the shit that, games will be played with the assurance of innovation. that what it all boils down to the choice that sony has made with the system that we all still remain loyal too. 1080p is just feature we can desire but the main reason we play these systems is to enjoy them. not to continously compare the three. SO enjoy ur update cause i will already have mine…

  8. Gareth Says:

jose, I seriously hope you’re not trying to say that Sony is innovative with anything they do? Where’s the innovation? Everything from the controller to the online service has been ripped from someone else. Their games – though high in number – are generally very poor in quality.

If you want to be a stupid fanboy and blindly worship their next over-hyped machine then be my guest, but don’t expect anyone to take you seriously as a result. Both MS and Nintendo own Sony, and were it not for people like you who have your heads so far up Sony’s arse that you can’t see what’s going on around you, Sony’s sales would more realistically reflect the quality of their products too.
