Sony CEO Not Worried About PS3 Delays

October 30th, 2006 by Darren Stevens in Action

2006_10_30t055718_450x300_us_china_sony.jpgSony CEO Howard Stringer said that he wasn’t worried about the PS3 delays, while speaking at the new Sony interactive science center in Beijing.

“The idea of worrying about a delay in the PlayStation is slightly strange to me. Every complex technology runs the risk of delay.”

Strange to him? Maybe that’s why Sony’s profit just dropped 94%? Furthermore, he said that in order to cope with the PS3 losses, Sony needs to find profit(s) from elsewhere,

“We really have to generate excitement and profit from other parts of the company to offset the performance in PlayStation 3,”

Sony estimates the game division losses to reach $1,7 billion this year, mostly due to the high manufacturing costs on the PlayStation 3.

Of course he’s not worried. Doom and other like him/her/it would buy one of these even if it was a typically over-hyped Blu-ray trojan horse-style Sony console that’s no more powerful than anything else on the market with a typically half-arsed online “service”, little or no exclusives worth owning it for and almost all its “ideas” stolen from MS or Nintendo!

    …..

    Oh wait!

  2. Ruin3d Says:

$1.7 BN losses…. OUCH! Even with the success of Sony’s music division thats gotta hurt. Sure Microsoft lost a similar amount but they wipe their asses on 1.7 BN for Sony its a lot of money

  3. Zac Says:

1.7 Billion. Wow. Is that respectable, or stupid business?

  4. Jim2k Says:

Remember, it’s -1.7 Billion now, but they’ll be making tons of money in 2-3 years when the PS3 is profitable. That’s how it’s done with all consoles. Except Nintendo, of course :)

Eh eh, well see little fanboys well see who’ll have the last laugh.

    N64 / gamecube anyone?

  6. Gareth Says:

Last time I checked the hardware sales charts, DS > PSP.

Or maybe that’s another fact you’d like to try and bullshit your way out of Doom?

  7. doom Says:

How the hell can you compare home consoles to handhelds? The ps3’s superior force vs the pathetic Wiiboyz has nothing to do with nice DS sales. However I’d note that thanks to the gameboys there is still wii. Without gameboy there wiildn’t be any.

  8. Zac Says:

Yeah we’ll see who gets the last laugh…

Wouldn’t it be funny if i bought a bought a console at half the price and was still really happy with it. Haha.

  9. doom Says:

True! Guess I’m a filthy selfloathing bastard muha!

  10. Zac Says:

    Yeah. Muha. Muha.

  11. Gareth Says:

I’d ask you to explain just wtf the N64 has to do with the PS3 in your prior comment, but I’m just really, really tired of your bullshit nonsense now.

I see you brought your boyfriend here for some backup though, which really made me laugh! lol!

  12. doom Says:

Are you high? I’m finishing you off myself nerd0.

  13. Zac Says:

Ah… No. You didn’t. Maybe in your own little heart you won, but nobody here is convinced. Save maybe Shaka, but he doesn’t matter.

Funny that you call him nerd, when you’re the one with 477 posts and he’s nowhere on the list. Gee I wonder who spends most of his time on his computer?

“Funny that you call him nerd, when you’re the one with 477 posts and he’s nowhere on the list. Gee I wonder who spends most of his time on his computer? ”

LOL! That’s funny as hell! Zac got you there Doom.

  15. Gareth Says:

    lol nice one Zac.

The only thing doom’s “finishing off” is his plate of Sony bullshit that he laps up every day before asking for seconds.

  16. Zac Says:

    Haha thanks. : )

  17. Kaiser Soze Says:

According to Doom’s own logic, he is now the one who gets less pussy in here, because he is the biggest nerd.

“Eh eh, well see little fanboys well see who’ll have the last laugh”

Saying that you are not a fanboy? Tell me Doom, why are you NOT a fanboy? That whole sentence pretty much proves that you are a fanboy

  18. Ruin3d Says:

I think the next gen war will be interesting. Don’t get me wrong im not a total Nintendo fanboy I have all the current consoles and can see good points for both systems.

    PS2 > GameCube

But PS2 was mass market and cool, GCN was too kiddy and had shit software support.

PS3 vs Wii will be much more interesting. PS3 has lost a lot of PS2’s ground because at £450 its never going to be mass market. Without a major price cut it just isnt affordable for everyone. (Yes Doom or $haka will pipe up about how its worth it but taking into account the average UK wage and the fact that they both still live with their mums I just don’t think the average PS2 owner can afford £450 out of a paycheck)

Take DS vs PSP as a model. PSP is technologically superior, does more stuff and looks cooler (though Lite claws back a fair bit of that lost ground). Yet due to playability and games DS has kicked three shades of shit out of PSP.

Wii vs PS3 is the same, Sony start with the advantage given to them by PS3, but if Nintendo can replicate DS I think we could be seeing a shift in power.

  19. Kaiser Soze Says:

Amen to that Ruin3d. I also think DS vs PSP is the perfect model for showing how things might very well turn out
