They don’t need DVD playback at all … they need to stick to being a gaming only console .. the ONLY one on the market and just continue to refine that aspect of the Wii. Anyway it no longer matters to me as I only see the Wii as a Gaming system … period. If I want DVD playback I want HD DVD/Blu-ray (whoever wins basically) anyway since that is the future.

So now my feeling is that Nintendo shouldn’t worry about that aspect at all given their position and given what they are actually trying to accomplish. Maybe once a real HD standard is worked out and they eventually position the Wii as a multimedia device okay … but as it stands now it makes Zero sense for Nintendo to add that to a pure Gaming system.

Nintendo of America is an idiot. That’s not their decision. I want Wii DVD to save more space and if they didnt release it in the USA then I will buy the japan version and that’s their problem. Stupid nintendo of america, ugh! BRING IT OVER OR ELSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m dissapointed in Nintendo right now. I don’t care that much about the dvd thing, but a lot of people do care. Their just damaging their US/Euro sales with that move. Also, wtff (what the f*cking F*CK) is up with the virtual console in Japan? They get Genesis games cheaper AND get a few extra games (like LoZ: A Link to the Past). There be no reason for that there craziness!!! Otherwise, Wii is the awesomenessisity!

Much better way to do it. Why do I need another DVD player for £30 extra on my console, I have a standalone player, a PS2 an Xbox 360 how many do I really need? If I didn’t have one then I might be interested in an extra package but I don’t want to pay for something I don’t use anyway. If I wanted to be ripped off id buy an import PS3 so I can rebuy my DVD collection

Really Nintendo no wants the Wii for a DVD player, or Blu-Ray, or HD-DVD! They just want games! You gave the immpresion that it was all about the games and not the multimedia functions. You are contradicting what you said. Now people are going to complain about there not being one in the U.S.A and Europe just for the sake of it.

So.. they say you DON’T need dvd playback in your gameconsole, but they offer later anyway later on. This seems a little contradictory to nintendo ”play only” doctrine.

Hehe, special edition wii with dvd playback. the xbox and ps2 users already had dvd playback for 5 years now? 6? It costs nothing extra. Ninty is just robbing people again so they can make more profit on each console, the thieves.
